Alan Bruns is a Colorado Native and after graduating from Lamar High School, attended Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1983 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army.

2 nd Lieutenant ( AGAIN ) Alan Bruns attended the F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine of the Uniformed Services University, Bethesda, Maryland with rotations at Bethesda Naval Hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in D.C., and earned his Medical Degree in 1990 and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical Honor society.
