  3. 3. This proposal, known as the "Schumandeclaration", is considered to be thebeginning of the creation of what is now theEuropean Union.
  4. 4. The 9th of May has become a Europeansymbol (Europe Day) which, along with the flathe anthem the motto and the single currency(the euro), identifies the political entity of theEuropean Union.
