DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Communications will work closely with ABIM Foundation (the
“Foundation”) staff as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives,
which will be set by the Vice President of Communications and the Executive Vice
President of the Foundation. This position will have a dual reporting relationship to these
two executives, with the primary reporting relationship being to the Vice President of
Communications.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across the discrete
audiences in collaboration with the program team and other communications staff
Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic
collateral including, but not limited to, e-alerts, press releases, fact sheets, and the
Foundation’s website content, etc.
Manage communications consultants
Lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to
measurable action
Work with the Communications Web team and program staff to ensure that new and
consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly
Disseminate Foundation products and research to healthcare opinion elites and the
media
Publicize Foundation activities
Drafting press materials, including press releases, op-eds, letters to the editor, etc.
Writing for the web and social media
Track and measure the level of engagement within the network over time
Manage all media contacts
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Must possess at least 10 years of communications experience, ideally in an “in-
house” leadership role within a complex (number and variety of constituents)
nonprofit entity, and covering areas such as campaign strategy, message
development, website content, and media relations.
The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and
disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical.
Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications
strategies

initiatives concurrently

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
New media/social media experience a plus
Degree in marketing, communication, journalism or related field
