IINTRODUCTION • ANDROID MEANS IN Rubin's words "smarter mobile devices that are more aware of its owner's location and preferences" • On linux based operating system • Android, Inc. was founded in Palo Alto, California in October 2003 bought by GOOGLE In 2005 • The Open Handset Alliance (OHA) in 2007 •Android is open source and Google releases the code under the Apache license • FIRST PRODUCT CALLED HTC DREAM
  • 3. INTERFACE • Interface based on direct manipulation( like swiping, tapping, pinching and reverse pinching to manipulate on-screen objects) • Give HAPTIC FEEDBACK • Interface heavily customizable • Home screen made of apps and widgets • Status Bar

APPLICATIONS • DOWNLOADED FROM Play store Amazon app store Third party sites • September 2012, there were more than 675,000 apps available for Android, and the estimated number of applications downloaded from the Play Store was 25 billion • accelerometers, gyroscopes and proximity sensors are used by some applications to respond to additional user actions • Apps are build using SDK.
