  • Shapes
  • A CUBOID HAS 8 CORNERS, 12 EDGES 6 FACES
  • LINES
    • LINES CAN BE :
    • STRAIGHT OR
    • CURVED
  • 3 TYPES OF STRAIGHT LINES ARE:
    • VERTICAL
    • HORIZONTAL
    • SLANTING
  • VERTICAL
  • HORIZONTAL
  • SLANTING
  • LINES CAN ALSO BE CURVED
  • A PICTURE IS MADE USING BOTH TYPES OF LINES
  • CLOSED SHAPE
    • A CLOSED SHAPE THAT DOES NOT CROSS ITSELF IS A SIMPLE CLOSED CURVE.
  • EXAMPLE
  • MORE EXAMPLES
  • SOME CLOSED SHAPES ARE FORMED ONLY WITH STRAIGHT LINES.
    • THESE ARE CALLED POLYGONS
  • EXAMPLES
  •
  •
  •
  • EXERCISE
    • Put a tick mark on the simple closed curves

  • TYPES OF POLYGONS
    • A POLYGON IS NAMED ACCORDING TO THE NUMBER OF SIDES IT HAS.
  • EXAMPLE
    • A POLYGON WITH 3 LINE SEGMENTS IS CALLED A TRIANGLE.
    • A POLYGON WITH 4 LINE SEGMENTS IS CALLED A QUADRILATERAL.
  • A RECTANGLE IS A SPECIAL QUADRILATERAL IN WHICH OPPOSITESIDES ARE OF EQUAL LENGTH
  • A SQUARE IS A SPECIAL RECTANGLE IN WHICH ALL 4 SIDES ARE EQUAL.
  • SAY WHETHER TRUE OR FALSE:
    • A) all squares are quadrilateral.
    • B) a triangle is a polygon.
    • C) a polygon is made up of line segments.
    • D) all quadrilaterals are rectangles.
