  • 1. GENETICS HOMEWORK HELP Genetics is the most important aspect of Biology, It comes under Zoology. Here we will discuss about Genetics and its sub divisions. Send your genetics assignment and homework questions at support@aaswebsolutions.com Please visit www.aaswebsolutions.com for more details
  • 2. Definition of Genetics  Genetics is the branch of Zoology that deals with the study of heredity and its variations of life. It is derived from Greek word ‘Genesis’ meaning ‘origin’. Genetics is technically defined as a process in which the parent passes set of genes onto their offspring/children.
  • 3. Subdivisions of Genetics  Research in Genetic Industry  Human and Population Genetics  Molecular and Microbial Genetics  Classical Genetics (Mendelian Genetics)
  • 4. Classical Genetics  Gregor Johann Mendel, an Australian botanist monk, found genetic science in early 18th century.  This deals with transmission of traits from one generation to another.  .The two important laws of Mendel describe the nature of allele and trait during transmission.
  • 5. Molecular and Microbial Genetics  This is the study of physical and chemical nature of DNA, RNA and proteins.  Gene is found embedded in DNA of a chromosome that is made up of nucleotides adenine (A), Guanine (G),Thymine (T) and Cytosine (C)
  • 6. Human and Population Genetics  Sex linked inheritance; Multiple alleles and genetics disorders are analyzed under this subdivision.  HardyWeinberg equilibrium forms a skeleton for population studies where the allelic and genotypic frequencies remain constant throughout the generation line,
  • 7. Research in Genetic Industry  Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) is a favorite model organism in genetic studies as it is small, can be easily reared and maintained.  Many researches have been and are being carried out to understand the nature of disorders and its cure.
