Pdxwp.march.2010.jorbin Pdxwp.march.2010.jorbin Presentation Transcript

  • WordPress 3.0 Aaron Jorbin PDXWP 18 March 2010 @aaronjorbin http://aaron.jorb.in
  • It's Still Alpha, things (most likely) will change
  • It used to be a pain, but now it's easy
  • 'Big' New Features
    • Multisite
    • Menu Manager
    • Custom Post Type improvements
  • Multisite
    • What used to be WPMU, is now the multisite component of WordPress
    • Once you go MS, you can't go back (simply)
    • It's an active choice. You can't accidentally convert to MS
    • Sub Domains vs. Sub Directories
    • Even though it's there, are you ready for it?
    • If you're doing this on a live server that's important, you are #doingitwrong
    • Server Access
    • Get Dirty
  • Menu Manager
    • Based on Woo Nav
    • Stored as a custom post type
    • Your Theme needs to support it
      • add_theme_support( 'nav-menus' );
    • What if your theme supports it and you don't have it?
      • Falls back to wp_page_menu, but that can be overridden
  • Custom Post Types UI
      Before
    • If you added a Custom Post Type, you needed to build your own UI
      Now
    • Easily add a UI that is just as extensible as the standard UI
    • Don't want a UI? Don't change a thing (unless it's already set to be public)
  • Other Changes
    • EVERYONE
      • New Theme
        • Not a framework, but very child themable
      • Custom Backgrounds
      • Easier to get involved
    • DEVELOPERS:
      • You can make updates stay in line class='updated inline'
      • Hooks, Filters, And Refactoring
        • All Constants in one place
        • apply_filters_ref_array
