This means you and many other people would have being having rawfoods one way or another included in your diet without really taking note of this.However, those that are on raw food diets, have at least 70% of raw foods in theirdiet. This is the only different from someone that is eating cooked or processed foodwith a little bit of raw foods of about 10% or probably less in their diets.I personally believe raw food have being around for a long time and is not really anew thing. We were born into raw foods and eating raw food from birth in form of rawmilk from our mother’s breast for those of us that were breast feed. And in the oldendays, before the modern days, our forefathers were eating raw foods in the forestand did not really cook their foods. It’s only when they started getting to know aboutfire and heat that they started cooking their foods as we do today. Although, nowpeople have beginning to understand the benefits and value of eating food rawespecially for their nutritional value, this is now growing at a fast rate.Raw foods can be eating as a meal or as snack e.g. raw nuts, seed. Raw food canbe cooked but most not be heated more than 40 C/104 F in temperature and at46 C/115 F at the most.There are various types of raw food diet, these include raw veganism (foods that aremainly heated below 40 C), raw vegetarianism (foods the exclude animal productsexpect eggs and dairy), raw animal food diet also refer to as Palaeolithic diet (as thename implies, the diet contains raw, uncooked meats; this would be discussed indepth in preceding article).
Raw food is believe to give nutritional value to the body and more healthy for thebody. It also helps to fight and reduce the risk of diseases such as cardiovascular,heart disease, cancer and stroke; these are mainly achieved because raw foodsmostly retain their nutrients in the raw form and depend on how the food is prepared.Raw food diet as and is also being used as a diet to tackle obesity which is agrowing concern nowadays among both adults and children even pets such as catsand dogs.Raw food diet does not only focus on fruit and vegetables alone as some mightbelieve it do. But the diet can includes the consumption of any unprocessed, free ofchemicals and artificial ingredients and the like such as unpasteurized dairyproducts.The notion of most raw food eaters like the celebrities such as Actress AngelaBassett, Actor Robin William, Musician Sting, is that, food that are cooked, baked ormicrowaved would have lost it nutritional value and that the food would be of nogood/use to the body instead enhance the development of excessive free radicals inthe body which can damage the cells and tissues and clog the arteries. This oftenleads to some of the diseases mentioned above.There is a believe system that, there are lot of benefits associated with eating rawfood as also proven scientifically by studies obtained from medical researchers.Some of the benefits include lower digestive issues, lower heart problems, lowerblood pressure, etc. To know more about the benefits click here.Starting Kids on Raw FoodsChildren started on raw food from sucking their mothers breast as most of all adultdo while we were babies, at least for those of us that had the previledge of suckingour mothers breast. For these kids, starting them on raw foods should be easy.However, for those that started on cooked and processed foods or have beenintroduce into eating processed foods and have grown into loving eating these kindof foods will find it a lit bit challenging to start a raw food diets. How then do I startmy kids on raw foods, you may ask?Some kids are very picky with their foods, this might be challenging for parents todeal with. It is advicable to start slowly with your kids. You can start with fresh fruitsand vegetable probably making them into 100% juice without sugar (as most fruitshave natural sugar) and puree for easy of digestion for babies. With kids that havestarted eating on thier own, you can give them incentive/rewards for each raw foodsthey eat and also let them understand the benefits of eating all these raw and livingfoods. Also showing them what they could become if they continue to eat the "bad"processed foods. Disease like diabetes, over weight (they could be bully at school
for being obese), and other healthy issues such as sleep apnoea, asthma, highblood pressure, high cholesterol levels, etc that might spring up as they grow older.The nutrients, vitamins, great immune system, energy and nuritional value are someof the benefits you can help your kids to understand i.e. for those that cancommunicate.Obesity and overweight in childern is a growing concern in countries like Americanand United Kingdom. Studies have shown that 1 in 3 childern are obese in USAalone, this is really socking. This is the more reason to start introducing your kids toraw foods diet and changing your life style through exercise, eating proper balancediet and showing examples by doing the same. As we all know that childern learn byexample and what they see around them.In Uk, a study carried out by BUPA, shows "..that one in six children aged betweentwo and fifteen were obese in 2006". Can you image what the percentage would benow at 2011, if and when we continue to allow our children to live unhealthy like stylethrough eating wrong foods (high fat, processed and surgary foods) and not beingactive.The most important aspect of getting your children involved in the preparation asmeans of introducing them to a raw food diet is to show them how the food isprepared. Raw food preparation is a an easy thing to do because involved little orvirtually no cooking especially with fruits and vegetable, therefore the parent doesn’tneed to worry about the child burning or scalding themselves. Even though somecutting might be involved using kitchen utensils such as knives, parents have to dothat themslve to prevents young children harming themselves. However there arestill other ways and things they can do to help. For example, your child could placethe cut pieces in a bowl or plate after you cut fruits or vegetable , or if the meal willinclude leafy raw foods children can help with washing these under cold water foryou.Other avenue to get your children to take on a raw food diet is to provide them withfresh fruits like apple, organes, watermelon, grapes, berries, and bananas. Mostchildren enjoy these fruits because of their sweetness and the more variety youprovide the better it is. If you provide with these healthy choices of raw foods theyare more likely to be less inclined to ask for suguray foods found in cakes that haspreservatives, candy or cookies. There is a massive difference between thetaste of natural sugars in raw foods and processed sugars, and children can easilyknow the difference and go for the healthier choice.
