  • 2. As well as creating a documentary we createdtwo ancillary texts, a radio trailer and a doublepage spread for a TV listings magazine. Both ofthese were used to promote and advertise ourTV documentary so they had to appeal to thesame audience as our TV documentary.
  • 3. Target AudienceOur target audience is young people, both male and female, aged 13-24 Thisis because many would argue that this age group is the largest offender forillegal downloading so hopefully the documentary would help make themrealize the negative effect illegal downloading is having on the musicindustry.There is no specific race or religion that our documentary is targeting andalthough the main target audience is that of young people, it is more thanlikely to appeal to parents of these children as well as they may be curious tosee what damage is being done by people illegally downloading music.

TV Listings ArticleOur TV listings article combines well with the TV Documentary as it featuresscreen grabs from the documentary as images on the page to allow readersto get an idea of what will be coming up in the documentary. We used theimage you can see below as the main image in our article as it is showing howeasy it is to download free music with todays technology.

We decided to use TV Choice as even though its main audience is not youngpeople it appeals more to them than other tv listings magazines such asRadiotimesThe bright colours and large images draw the readers attention but the magazinestill gives all the vital information needed about the tv documentary. We made sure the images were something recognisable to a young reader and the brightly coloured quotes and title are eye catching.
  • 6. Radio TrailerThroughout the radio trailer we used clips from the documentary which link thewell together. This makes it recognisable that the two products are linked whenboth are watched and listened to.Combined with the similar music that we used in both the documentary and radiotrailer I feel the two work well together and the radio trailer does a good job atadvertising the main product to the audience, something we were aiming to dowhile creating both pieces.For the radio trailer to do the best possible job of advertising the main product it isimportant it is broadcast at the right time across national radio on Radio 1 Fm asdepending on the show this station has a high younger audience, something weneed to utilize when advertising the work.Also with the nature of our documentary, Illegal Downloading it seems fitting toadvertise over a platform that provides music for free to the country.
