Did you know that 2/3 ofthe human body is water?
You can live without food for several weeks, but you wouldsurvive less than a week without water.
It is necessary for everything the body doesIt carries our food and waste in and out of our cellsIt keeps our temperature at the right level.
To stay in goodhealth we need todrink 8 glasses ofwater a day (2litres)
Most people do not drink enough water. If wedon’t drink enough we can suffer from:o Headacheso Poor concentrationo Tirednesso Kidney infectionso Constipation
and yet ……. One out ofevery five people in ourworld does not haveaccess to clean water!
And every fifteen secondsanother child somewheredies from a diseasecarried in dirty water
Every time we flush the toilet we use ten litres ofwater. That is the daily supply for most people inthe developing world …. If they are lucky!
And yet …. The charity WaterAid has worked outthat clean water and toilet facilities could beprovided for only £15 per person!
The charity knows that many women and children indeveloping countries spend hours each day walkingmiles to collect dirty water.Carrying heavy water containers takes up valuabletime and energy. It stops children from going toschool, and reduces the time in which they could bemaking a living.
Water Aid works with localpeople to bring clean waterto their communities usingcheap methods which arecheap and easy to maintain.
But there is much to do …. and at the rate things are going more thanwill be lost before everyone in the developingcountries has access to clean water.
More and more people will be forced to leavetheir homes in search of clean water
