KCHTO-2 SEMENGGOK ORANG-UTAN REHABILITATION CENTRE Departure: daily Approximate Duration: 3 hours Visit the Semenggoh Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. The entire facility occupies an area of 296ha, the only remaining green belt sanctuary for orang utans near the city of Kuching. The centre is a temporary home for displaced orang utans also known as “men of the jungle”. They have been rescued from captivity or are young orphans and are trained or re-trained to survive in their natural surroundings. Take a walk on the trails and try to spot semi-wild orang utans. There are feeding times scheduled everyday at the feeding platform. However always bear in mind that the main aim of the centre is to return these animals back into their habitat. Do not be disappointed if you do not see any roaming the jungles or coming back to feed as this means they are able to forage on their own and do not need human assistance. On returning to the city, stop for a visit to a pottery outlet for a close up look at nimble hands fashioning works of art. Watch the potter at his wheel and see what happens when pieces of clay is baked and then painted. This is also a good place to pick up souvenirs as a keepsake of your trip. The park is located at the northern tip of Muara Tebas Peninsula. It can be reach by a half-hour drive by coach and another 30 minutes by boat. The park has on area of 16km2. of primary forest with an abundance of botanical treasures made up of 25 types of vegetation. Amongst this plant life is the carnivorous pitcher plant. Bako’s mangrove forest is home to the proboscis monkey, found only in Borneo. Other species found here are the long-tailed macaques, silver-leafed monkeys, monitor lizards and bearded pigs. There are a number of trails exploring the park with a several indented sandy bays providing excellent locations for swimming. Popularly known as the “Oil Town” of Sarawak, it has a population of approximately 170,000 people (made up of Malay, Chinese, local ethnic tribes and expatriates) whose harmonious interaction and hospitality never ceases to amaze first time visitors. The tour will start with a pick-up at the hotel lobby and you will be taken to some exciting and interesting places like the first oil well known as the “Grand Old Lady” at Canada Hill, the bustling farmer’s market or tamu, a Taoist Temple and a drive through the oil refinery district of Lutong/Pisau. MYYTO- 2 NIAH NATIONAL PARK (Ex-Miri) Departure: daily Approximate Duration: full day Not far from Miri, an one-hour’s drive away is the Niah National Park, home to the famous Niah Cave which has has been dated back to 40,000 years ago. It is the place of oldest modern human settlement and civilisation found in this region. Upon arrival, travel by boat across a narrow river and after an hour’s trek you will arrive at this great archaeological cave that is also home to bats, swiftlets and other specially adapted forms of life. Chances are that you will encounter local collectors of bird nests and guano (bat and bird droppings). Not to be missed is the Painted Cave, the site of the famous Niah Cave paintings where the ‘death-ships’ were found. The contents of the death ships are now at the Sarawak Museum but the aura of the area and the paintings on the wall still brings one back to the feeling of being in ancient times. Sabah - Kota Kinabalu BKITO-1 KOTA KINABALU CITY TOUR Departure: daily Approximate Duration: 2.5 hrs An introduction to Kota Kinabalu the capital of Sabah – “The Land below the Wind”, and its suburbs.
