- Pass it off to JP the PM for the WDK
We are excited to announce the release of the Widget Developer Kit v1.2.15 Get it now on the Connected TV Website connectedtv.yahoo.com
The first thing you’ll notice are improvements to the installation and configuration process
Not only we provide a well tested VM, but we’ve also now tested both VMware and VirtualBox on both Windows 7 and MacOS 10.6.4.- A great benefit of using VirtualBox on the Mac is that it is free, unlike VMware Fusion which requires a license.
The new engine 5.6.2 is an upgrade from last year’s version 5.4.2 of WDK 1.0 We’ve also made improvements in the desktop host implementation, which now interfaces with the engine using the same APIs that OEMs have implemented on their devices.
We’ve added a Toshiba simulation mode for Toshiba TV who launched a line of Connected TVs to consumers in late 2010. We now also include 5 different simulation modes for Samsung TVs corresponding to different models in the field in the US and Europe. It is important to note that even though each of these simulation modes use the same engine, their use slightly different versions of the framework and container widgets, and different UI skins and focus colors. Developers should test their widgets against these different OEM configurations to make sure that their apps work equally as well across all of them
- You’ll notice a cleaner looks for the Applications / TV Widgets menu, with clearly labeled separate launchers for each OEM platform.- We also wanted to simplify the documentation for our devs. Now you can be sure that all the docs are up to date because we have them online.
Developers are paid in USDAnyone around the world can participate in the store
- Hand off to Austin when done
Download the latest WDKBuild something cool!Submit to Yahoo! QA – 1 weeks of QA No need to submit to each OEM, Y! does all device partner QAShortest time to production is 3 weeks w/ no bugs
Device Control is currently in closed beta however, we are accepting a few developers in the beta. If you would like to be considered contact us. BI is a closed beta. We do plan on making a few of these features available to devs but for now we are focusing on getting it right with the broadcasters.
