Crawler-based Search Engines, such as Google, use a “Spider” or “Bot” to search the Web for content, to present to their users.

Crawlers follow the hyperlinks within each web page, in order to find all pages within a site, as well as other domains to which that site links.

The Crawler scans all the data and text on a webpage, and stores this in their Index

When you enter a search term into Google, they trawl their Index for content related to that search term, and present you with a list of appropriate sites.

Search Engines use a complex algorithm, to ensure that the results they display are the closest possible match to what you searched for.

This makes the Searcher very happy indeed.
