  2. 2. POLICY HANDBOOKFirst of all, we would like to welcome you to Alif-Ba-Ta Learning Center. We are glad to have you as part of this wonderful Islamic educational program. Inthe following pages, you will discover our philosophy and goals, operating procedures, and policies concerning the education of your child/children. If you haveany questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact us about them.Enrollment Requirements:Before enrolling your child in Alif-Ba-Ta Learning Center there are several things you must do:1. Read through and become familiar with this Policy Handbook. You will be required to sign a contract that indicates you have read, understand, andagree to ALL the Policies as outlined.2. All required fees must be paid at the time of enrollment. If you do not pay the required fees for the program your child will not be able to start untilthey have been paid in full.3. All appropriate forms must be filled out, signed, initialed and on file PRIOR to admission. All necessary forms/consents will be given to you in youradmission package. Contract signed by both parent/guardians Child Admission Record General Health Appraisal Form Immunizations Record or Colorado Immunization Card NOTARIZED Emergency Medical TreatmentAuthorization Permission Forms for the following:o Photo permissiono Napping Permissiono Sunscreeno Transportation and Field Trip Permissiono Media Use Permissiono Activity permission Program TransportationProgram hours are individualized for each child and listed in your contract depending on whether your child is in the full-time or part-time program. The programwill be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and extended hours may be available from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.We believe in taking a professional approach in what we can offer the children. We will provide an Islamic educational that will be beneficial to both thechildren and the community. We work to keep abreast of current information on childcare and early childhood education. We are active in continuingeducation through various courses, conferences and in-services through various state and national child care organizations.This handbook has been prepared for you (the parent or guardian).   3. 3. PHILOSOPHY AND GOALSOur philosophy is to provide a loving, happy, educational and secure environment for children. We strive to enrich each child with a love of learning, apositive self-image, and a sense of creativity. We also strive to promote mutual respect between the parent, the child, and the staff. To accomplish these goals,we will work:1. To provide a nurturing atmosphere to promote a childs creativity and positive self-image.2. To provide the children with many different educational activities and play centers to explore and participate in. We provide developmentallyappropriate programs for the children to experience and enjoy. These programs are either developed by staff or purchased through a preschoolprogram. We incorporate walks, art, and stories into our programs.3. To provide positive methods of discipline to reinforce the strengths of the children and to help develop a respect for others. We try to developage-appropriate limits to help the children gain a sense of independence and responsibility.4. To be available to parents for the purpose of daily communication. Our doors are always open to the parents.RATES AND FEESThe cost of the program will vary from child to child depending on whether they attend full-time or part-time. Your monthly rates will be based on theprogram and age of your child. An enrollment fee is charged to hold your opening in the program and to purchase supplies. This rate is subject to change asdeemed necessary. The following are the enrollment fees that are charged upon enrolling your child. If the child/ren have taken time away from the programtemporarily for reasons listed, but not limited to: Maternity leave, Extended Illness or Vacations, you will still be responsible for the full tuition. No position isguaranteed to a parent until an enrollment fee has been received. No positions will be held for longer than 5 business days with the enrollment fee. Starting withthe 6thbusiness day forward, you forfeit the position, if another child is on the waiting list and the enrollment fee will not be refunded.ENROLLMENT/HOLDING POSITION FEESA $150.00 enrollment fee is due at the time of enrollment. All enrollment forms must be received with the enrollment fee (exception to be made forhealth evaluation and immunization forms). Once an enrollment fee and enrollment forms are received, the child can start whenever it is convenient for theparent **THE ENROLLEMT FEES are NON-REFUNDABLE** whether or not your child starts the program at Alif-Ba-Ta Learning Center.In addition to the enrollment fee, the parent shall complete and return all forms with payment for one ( 1) month of tuition in advance. It will be decidedbetween the program staff and parent how much will be paid in advancePROGRAM FEESAll services are PREPAID and will be made on the 1stbusiness day of the month (if paying monthly) and Monday of every other week (if paying bi-monthly), prior to the month/weeks of the program. No post-dated checks will be accepted. There will be a $10.00 charge for each day the payment is late.Checks returned for insufficient funds, closed accounts, or similar reasons will be rectified immediately by a cash payment plus an additional $20.00 service fee.From that point on all payments must be made in CASH.There will be an overtime charge for all children dropped off before program hours or picked up after program hours. The intent is not to increasebusiness income, but to have the program opening-closing times respected so staff may follow through with family plans and commitments.Overtime is charged at a rate $5.00 per 15-minute increment or portion thereof starting with the first if some type of notice is given. Overtime is charged at arate $10.00 per 15-minute increment or portion thereof starting with the first if no notice is given. The same rate applies for early drop-off whetherpre-arranged or not. This is payable at time you pick up your child. The staff has the right to waive the overtime charges as deemed necessary. If yourpayment is late, you may be asked to withdraw your child from the program.If your child purposely damages any property, such as toys, books, or equipment, you will be expected to replace that item or pay for the replacement or repair.ARRIVAL/DEPARTURESAbsences: If your child will not be attending the program for the day, we expect a phone call before their class time begins. Parents must notify us if your childwill be arriving or leaving at a different time than their starting hours. This will ensure that we do not miss each other. Failure to notify the staff can result inimmediate termination.Parent Drop Off: Parents must drop their child off only during their contracted hours as to not disturb the program. We request that parents keep their good-byesto a minimum. If your child does not cry, please dont continue the good-byes until he or she does. We expect a phone call at least 30 minutes in advance if it isnecessary for you to drop off at a time other than what is contracted. You will be charged overtime if you bring your child before your program hours or pick themup after your program hours without pre-authorization. Failure to call can result in immediate termination.Parent Pick Up: If an emergency makes it impossible to pick up your child at your usual pick up time, we need a phone call. You will still be charged overtime.We will expect a phone call if it is necessary for you to be late picking up. We feel that parents should spend as much quality time as possible with their children.It minimizes social, emotional and behavioral issues.Authorized Adults for Pick Up: Children will be released only to their parents or to an adult who is authorized by both parents. Siblings under 18years of age cannot pick up the child. The parent must submit written authorization for any person to collect the child. Signed faxes or email from aParent Handbook, Revised 05/23/13
  4. 4. known email address is acceptable. All people authorized and unknown to us will be required to show ID when they come to collect the child. We askthat you bring any authorized people to meet us at least once before they call to get the child.Unauthorized Persons for Pick Up: The staff will notify the party that they are not an authorized party to pick up the child. The staff will ask theparty to leave and will call the police if necessary.Transitions at Drop Off & Pick Up Times: It is normal for your child to cry on arrival, especially for the first few weeks. Please make your goodbye brief andtell your child exactly when you will be returning. The crying usually stops within seconds of your departure. You are welcome to listen outside the door. Neverleave without telling your child goodbye. Please be in control of your child during drop off and pick up times. This is a time of testing when two differentauthority figures are present (parent and staff) and this situation will be tested at one time or another to see if the rules still apply. We will remind your child ifinappropriate behaviors are being displayed. Children of all ages adjust to transitions from one activity to another differently. Most do not like to be too rushedand most do not like to wait too long once they are ready to depart.Court Orders: If there is a court order keeping one parent or guardian away from the child, we must have a legal copy of the order from the court presented bythe custodial parent or guardian in my file to that effect. By law, without official court orders, we cannot prevent the non- custodial parent from picking up thechild.VACATIONS/HOLIDAYS/CLOSURESSchool closures and holidays will be according to the Aurora Public Schools closures. A calendar will be provided to the parents upon enrollment with closuresand holidays listed. In addition to the Aurora Public Schools closures there will be two additional closures for the following holidays:*Eid Al-Fitr*Eid Al-Adha (Four days in length)EXTREME WEATHER CLOSURES: In case of extreme weather conditions, if the Aurora Public School District is closed, the program will also be closed.No tuition reimbursement will occur.ABSENCES/SICK DAYSYou will still be responsible for any day your child is not in class due to illness. If an emergency or an unforeseen situation causes the center to close other than theabove mentioned, there will be no charges for those days.EMERGENCIESWe must have numbers where parents can be reached, plus the number of a personal physician or clinic. It is extremely important that these numbers be keptcurrent so that we may reach you when necessary, not just during emergencies. The numbers may be checked from time to time to verify their accuracy. In caseof emergency, all staff carry a cell phone when not at the center. The main number is 720.629.0979. Parents must sign an emergency medical treatment form.This form must be notarized. In the event of a medical emergency concerning your child, we will make every effort to contact you. If you cannot be reached,or time does not allow an attempt, the release form will be used.EMERGENCY SITUATIONS/EVACUATION PLAN*See Emergency Policies and Evacuation Plan attached to this handbook.HEALTH & UNIVERSAL PRECAUTION POLICIES*See Health /Universal Precaution Policies attached to this handbook.SAFETY ISSUESSmoking: Smoking is prohibited in or around the center or outdoor play areas during the business hours for all staff, parents, guardian, volunteers,substitutes, and employees, in an effort to protect children from second hand smoke.Transportation: To protect the health and safety of the children in the program, proper age-appropriate restraints will be used when the staff transportsthe children in his/her vehicle.Parent’s Transportation of Children To/From the Program: Parents are also required to transport their child safely to/from the program. Thefollowing are our policies on dangerous situations that may arise:If a parent comes without a car seat, we will ask them to return home to get the car seat or purchase another one and return to pick up thechild with an appropriate car seat installed in the car.Parent Handbook, Revised 05/23/13
  5. 5. If a parent comes to pick up a child under the influence of drugs or alcohol, we will ask the parent to let us call the other authorized peopleto see if any are available. If no one is available to pick up the child, we will call a cab to pick up the child and the parent. The parent willpay the cab fare.We will charge a late pickup fee under these circumstances.When a parent transports children under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or fails to use an appropriate car seat, it creates an unsafetransportation situation for the children. In these situations we will immediately call the police and report the unsafe driving situation.Injuries: Small bumps, scrapes and cuts will have first aid administered per doctor’s recommendations on the health form and the parent will be notifiedat pick up time as to what happened. For injuries more severe, the staff will call 911 and then notify the parents. Should the child need transported, thestaff will relay the parent’s choice of hospital as indicated by intake records.Product Recalls: The staff will maintain knowledge of dangerous products, product-related injuries and product recalls of items in the class that couldbe a threat to children, by notifying parent of such products and or removing them from the center.MEALSParents will be required to provide 2 nutritious snacks and a lunch for their child. Parents should inform us of any allergies or specialdiets needed for their child.Special Diets: The parent will provide meals and snacks for children with special diets/needs.Special Events: No arrangements will be accepted for birthdays. You may bring a cake or special treats to help celebrate only our religiouscelebrations such the Eid Holidays. Please let us know of any special plans you may have, and we will try to schedule them.REST PERIODSAll full-time children will have a rest period in accordance with Colorado Rules & Regulations. The child does not have to sleep, but will be required to havea quite time without disturbing the other children. Full-time is defined as any child who is in child care for 4 hours or more in one day. The child does not have tosleep, but will be required to have a quite time without disturbing the other children. All children will be provided with age appropriate sleeping equipment.Toddlers, preschoolers and older children will be provided rest on a cot.Our napping schedule is 12:25pm – 1:00pm. Please DO NOT drop your child off during these hours, no exceptions. To be fair tostaff and the other resting children, please use good discretion about bringing your child prior to nap time.SUPPLIESThe following checked supplies will be provided by the parent to be left at the center.Blanket (if child wantsone)Pull-ups (if not pottytrained)Sunscreen – full spectrum, SPF 30+ WipesChange of clothesClothing: Parents will dress their children in clothing appropriate to the season and to the weather. Sunscreen may be needed during the hot summer months.We also ask the children be dressed in clothes that can get dirty so that the child is free to play outside or on the floor. The center is not responsible for misplacedor mislabeled articles of clothing or personal belongings. Slick soled shoes/sandals are not permitted at the center.Storage, theft or damage to property: Any items sent to the center by the parent, will be stored in a safe location exclusive to each child. If such items aredamaged or stolen by another child in the center, the staff will do their best to rectify such issue, by contacting the parent of the child responsible to negotiate asuitable replacement, if damage has occurred or the theft has been confirmed to have happened with their child. If theft or damage occurs to property of the center,the staff will contact the parent of the child responsible to negotiate replacement.ACTIVITY POLICIESOutdoor Activities: All children are required to participate in daily outdoor activities. Please provide your child with appropriate clothing i.e. snow boots, snowpants, heavy jacket, hat, gloves, light jacket, sweater, shoes. See supply list above.Sunscreen: Parent must Pre-apply sunscreen upon staff’s request. Full spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater will be applied daily for outdooractivities. Sunscreen will be reapplied as needed during the day.Extreme Temperatures: The staff will provide indoor activities, when there is heavy rain, heavy snow or the temperature is over 90 degrees or drops below20 degrees Fahrenheit.Diapering/Toilet Training: We expect that children are fully potty trained before entering the program, however if potty training assistance is needed the staffParent Handbook, Revised 05/23/13
  6. 6. will do their best to try and accommodate the parent if it causes little disruption to the day. Children’s personal items will be stored in a cubbie when item is not inuse. The staff is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items. The parent will provide diapering supplies as indicated in the supply list. Diaper ointments willbe provided by the parent and it can be used without doctor permission as preventative precaution. The staff will NOT use diaper rash ointments on any skinsurface if there is a rash or broken skin without having permission first from both the parent and the child’s physician. Pull-ups will be changed throughout the daywith periodic diaper checks.FIELD TRIPS/TRANSPORTATIONThe center may be going on field trips by car or on foot. The parent must sign a permission form authorizing scheduled and unscheduled trips away from thecenter. As required by law and human services rules and regulations, all children will be in either a car seat, booster seat or fastened by seat belts. Field trips willbe taken on a regular basis. For the childrens safety, though, all major field trips will be postponed if there is bad weather--only an emergency or a special tripmay be the exception. The center has a 15 passenger Chevy Express with a seating capacity of 15. The center has child car seats restraints available. While thestaff are away from the center, on a field trip or otherwise, you may contact them at 720.629.0979.Regular fieldtrips taken by this center are to local parks, public library, The Denver Zoo, Children’s Museum, public schools, etc.Parent’s initials of approval: ________Special Activities – Special activities or fieldtrips outside of the center (i.e. gymnastics, monkey business, etc.) that require a participation fee will work asfollows. If the parent does not want the child to participate, the parent will not bring in the child for that day. No tuition reimbursement will occur.Nonparticipation – Should a parent choose for their child to not participate in a specific regularly planned activity, the parents will keep the child home duringthose days/times. (No tuition reimbursement will occur).MEDIA USAGEChildren may have access for up to 2 hours each day using any of the following media sources: Television, videos, computers, and gaming systems. Theseresources will not contain any violence, profanity, or other inappropriate content. On occasion the children may watch a child appropriate video. Children areNEVER required to participate in media usage. Alternate activities will be offered to children who are not interested in participating in media usage. The parentwill be required to fill out the Activity Authorization form that authorizes media use.MISCELLANEOUS• We ask that you let the child bring a security blanket if the child feels in need of one for naptime. Please leave other toys in the car or at home - If yourchild does bring in other toys, food, etc. he/she will be expected to share them with all of the other children. Please do not bring candy, coins or itemsthat are easily broken. The center is not responsible for the loss or damage to any personal belongings of the child or his/her parent or guardian.• For the program to exist peacefully in this neighborhood, we ask you to respect the adjacent business parking lots. Please park only in legal spots on ourgrounds, and do not park in other business lots. Help us to maintain good relations with our neighbors.• This program can be considered as childcare and is a legally deductible expense and we will be happy to provide you with receipts or a year-end total foryour income tax purposes. A year-end receipt and W-10 form will not be given to any parent in arrears in their program tuition payments.GUIDANCE (DISCIPLINE)We believe in positive guidance first. We try to reward children for correct behavior. If the childs behavior is not acceptable, however, we use time out anddiscussion. Time out consists of one minute per year of age to sit away from activities. Other methods of guidance include logical and natural consequences,redirection, substitution, and role modeling. The child may be required to sit away from the activity for a short period of time. If need be, a conference may berequired to discuss ongoing problems. As changes in a childs life may affect his or her behavior, we ask that you inform us of any major changes, i.e. divorce,death, unemployment etc. You, as parents, are expected to back us up at all times for misbehavior. Failure to do so will result in immediate termination.No child will be hit, spanked, belittled, or otherwise intimidated at Alif-Ba-Ta Learning Center -- even with parental permission. No corporal punishment will beused. Children will be treated with courtesy, respect, and patience. Guidance will be according to age and understanding level.CHILD ABUSE/NEGLECTBy Colorado Law, we are required to report any signs of abuse or neglect of children in the center to Social Services, and we will Promptly do so. We are liable,as a childcare professionals, for this responsibility and can be fined or jailed for failing to do so.If you or we suspect child abuse, we are to report it to the Arapahoe County Department of Human Services, telephone # 303-636-1100 .If you care to review the Rules and Regulations that this center is regulated by, you can view them online at www.cdhs.state.co.us/childcare.FILING A COMPLAINT AGAINST A CHILDCARE HOMEIf you need to file a complaint against this or any other childcare home, you may do so via mail or telephone. The intent to terminate must be given to the centerdirector 2 weeks before the child is to leave the program. Failure to give 2 weeks notice, will result in two (2) months tuition being due and payable to coverthe program loss..A 2 week notice will also be given if a child can no longer be served in the program by staff.The staff has the right to terminate the contract without notice if parent fails to follow the policies of the program. No tuition will be reimbursed.The staff has the right to terminate a contract without notice in the case of harm to other children or a dangerous situation due to that child has causedintentionally or otherwise.CLOSINGThe Center is not receiving outside financial support. We have tried to be fair in setting up these guidelines to help us both see what we can do for each other.The financial arrangements are there for school to maintain a monthly balance we depend on to operate the program. We do expect the respect and considerationyou would give any other place of business. Please remember your business is necessary for the support and well-being of this program. Changes in the agreementform should be fully discussed and agreed upon.Your childs well being is very important to us, and we want to keep communication open. Please ask for a conference at any time. If necessary, we will ask thesame of you. Please feel free to bring us any complaints or compliments. As required by regulation, we are listing the number to Social Services. You may reachthem at 303-636-1100.HEALTH POLICY&UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONPROCEDURESParent Handbook, Revised 05/23/13

In this policy, we will provide complete information about the most common illnesses affecting young children so that wellinformed decisions can be made by parents about when to keep their child/children at home, and well informed decisionscan be made by educators about when to call a parent to pick up a child from the center. We will also provide you withinformation on our daily health and hygiene routines, integration of children with special needs, immunizations, medicationadministration, contagious diseases and food allergies.The State of Colorado requires that every child in a center maintain a current physical exam. The parent is required toprovide me with a physicians statement certifying the childs health PRIOR to the first day of enrollment and must beupdated annually.Please inform us of any allergies your child has. We will accept children with runny noses, and minor ailments that are notcontagious, for a maximum of 10 days. The following rules apply to illness your child may get during his/her stay at thecenter.Children who have an IEP plan need to give the center a copy at enrollment and each time it is updated.Children who are on daily medication must get a medical health plan from their doctor for the staff to keep at the center.CHILD ILLNESS EXCLUSION POLICYThis policy has been established in order to prevent the spread of communicable illness in the program, because children doat times become ill. Many of the guidelines are licensing requirements of the Department of Human Services for theprotection of your child. Some of the other guidelines were developed by the Tri-County Health Department and theChildren’s Hospital, in the best interest of children’s health in a childcare setting. Some were also developed for the needsof staff and family, since this is also a place where families may be. Children may at times be excluded from care until thesymptoms of conditions listed below are resolved or until evaluation by a physician, who will have to determine if the childis able to return to the center. Following this policy will protect all the children in the center.If your child has any of the diseases listed below or symptoms of them, they may/ or may not be admitted to the center. Ifyou child develops symptoms of excluded illnesses below we will immediately isolate them from the group in the sick childarea. We will call the numbers on your contact list in the child’s enrollment file to inform you of your child’s symptoms andParent Handbook, Revised 05/23/13
  9. 9. arrange for their timely departure from the center. If a child needs a doctor’s care, then the re-admit form must be filledout. If the child’s symptoms warrant, we will call 911, following the guidelines of the Emergency Medical Release, andthen notify you as soon as possible. Parent alerts will be sent for diseases which are diagnosed and also have noconfidentiality laws pertaining to them.There are clearly times when it is necessary for a child not be at the center. At other times deciding when to keep your childhome can be difficult, so good communication about symptoms between parents/guardian and staff is necessary. Some ofthese times of exclusion will be determined by you, the parent/guardian, some by the guidelines below, and at other times bystaff. These guidelines do not assume to cover all diseases or symptoms, only some of the more common ones. Therefore,with consideration of the recommendations of the aforementioned health and licensing professionals, the final decision as toexclusion will be center staff.Parent Handbook, Revised 05/23/13

The following list will help you understand the exclusions and also when to bring your child, if mildly ill:Comparison of Flu and Cold Symptoms:Symptoms of the Flu Symptoms of a ColdOnset sudden gradualFever high (over 101 F); lasts 3-4 days rareCough nonproductive; can become severe hackingHeadache prominent rareMuscle aches characteristic; can be severe slightFatigue/weakness Can last 2-3 weeks very mildExtreme exhaustion early and prominent neverChest discomfort Common mild to moderateStuffy nose sometimes very commonSneezing sometimes very commonSore throat sometimes very commonFour most common situations (These are also covered in the information below):• Fever – A fever is a sign that the body is fighting some problem. The importance of a raised temperature dependson what is causing the fever. A temperature of 101 degrees or higher means a child should stay home. In the eventof this type of temperature, the child should not come to the center until the temperature has been down for 24hours without the aid of a fever reducing medication such as Tylenol. If your child wakes with a high temperatureand you administer a fever reducer, this generally only last a few hours and we will have to call you when youarrive at work to come to pick up your child. In the meantime, the other children and staff have possibly beenexposed to an undiagnosed illness.• Vomiting or upset stomach- A child who has been vomiting can easily spread germs. If your child vomits while atthe center, you will be expected to come immediately to remove your child. If you are not able to come as soon asyou are called, please arrange for someone else to come pick up your child. The child must stay home until 24hours has passed with no vomiting episodes.• Diarrhea- When a child has a single loose stool, he or she does not need to be at home. However, if a child hasvery runny stools with perhaps a foul odor that cannot be contained in the diaper, or the child cannot reach thetoilet in time, the child’s stool could contaminate the classroom setting and this child must remain at home. Pleaseuse proper discretion with this. If the child has diarrhea that cannot be contained or with other symptoms, you willbe called to come pick up your child.• Runny noses- Children with constant runny noses that are not caused by allergies may spread germs everywhere.They may wipe their noses on their hands, and then rub them on other children, toys and surfaces. Please keep inmind how you would feel if another child’s parent brought their child to care and exposed your healthy child.Please teach your child to wipe their own nose as early as possible. Regulations state that when either the provideror child wipes their noses then hands must be washed. If the nose running is constant and the child cannot wipetheir nose or wash their hands without assistance, then this can become an impossible task for staff caring for otherchildren.Colds Exclusion - NOException: If, the child seems too ill to keep up with the usual activities, it may be a symptom of something more serious orif the child is experiencing such discomfort they would need to be excluded.Upper Respiratory Complications Exclusion - YESThis would include symptoms of yellow/green nasal discharge, lethargic, stiff neck, ear pain, fever over 100-axillary, underthe arm. The child must be evaluated by a doctor and a re-admit form signed by the doctor.Parent Handbook, Revised 05/23/13
  11. 11. Flu (Influenza) Exclusion - YESPlease consider giving your child the flu vaccine. Exclusion, The doctor willhave to evaluate the child’s eye and a re-admit form will be necessary (even if caused by allergy) If the pink eye is caused bya bacterium, the child is excluded twenty four (24) hours after antibiotic treatment is started. Symptoms should subsiderapidly. If they dont it is most likely that the pink eye is being caused by a virus, therefore, the child should be excludeduntil there is no drainageFifth Disease Exclusion - NOHand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (Coxsackie A) Exclusion - YESExclusion, An exception is if the child is too sick to participate in normal child care activities and if open sores cannot becovered. Open sores that cannot be covered must be crusted over before returning.Roseola Exclusion - YESExclusion, The child must see a doctor and a re-admit form is required. Usually a child may return with a rash if no fever ispresent.Vomiting Exclusion - YESVomiting may or may not be contagious due to its cause it may be viral, bacterial or something they ate. Exclusion,Whatever, the cause they must be excluded after one time, because of limited staff available with the children, we cannot beinvolved repeatedly in the extensive clean up that vomiting requires. If there are other symptoms besides the vomiting theymust see a doctor and have a readmit form sign before returning to child care.Diarrhea Exclusion – YESAn increased number of watery stools and frequency is twice what is usual. Exclusion, The child must be excluded whethercontagious or not if the stool cannot be contained in the diaper or the child cannot arrive at the toilet on time. Because oflimited staff with the children, we cannot be involved repeatedly in the extensive clean up that diarrhea causes. If there is noother symptoms of illness the child may return when they have had no episode in the past 24 hours. If other symptoms arepresent (vomiting or fever) with the diarrhea, they must see a doctor and may return only when the re-admit form states.Yeast Infections (thrush and/or Candida diaper rash) Exclusion - NOExclusion, The child may not attend if they do not feel well enough to participate in activities.Hepatitis Type A Exclusion – YESExclusion, The child must be excluded until one week after onset of jaundice and when they are able to participate inactivities again. Please be honest to limit illness being spreadthroughout the center and all the student’s families.If a child should become ill during the day, you will be notified immediately. The child will be isolatedfrom the other children and you will be expected to pick up your child immediately (within 1 hour from conclusion of thephone call or what is most reasonable based on the parent work location). Failure to pick up within 1 hour, or a reasonableamount of time, may result in immediate termination. Please notify us at once if your child has a contagious illness, so thatwe may respond appropriately. We will notify you if your child has been exposed to any contagious illness.Sunscreen: Parent must pre-apply sunscreen upon provider’s request. Sunscreen of full spectrum SPF 30 orgreater will be applied daily for outdoor activities. Full spectrum sunscreen will be reapplied as needed during theday.Remember any condition that your child has that makes them unable to participate in regular program activities orinterferes with the care of the other children requires that they not attend, or be picked up when such symptomsbecome evident. The medication label must contain followinginformation: Child’s name, the name of the medication, the dosage, time to be given, and for how many days. Themedication must be provided in the original container and it must contain the original pharmacy label.The instructions from the physician must include the following information: Information regarding themedication, the reason for the medication, the specific times for administration and the length of time that themedication is to be given.We may not deviate from the written authorization from the health care provider with prescriptive authority.We will not administer any kind of Homeopathic medication or Herbal preparations.Over-the-counter Ointments/CreamsWe may administer over-the counter ointments and creams such as: sunscreen, lip balm, skin creams and diaperrash ointments that are used for preventive purposes only. We do not require a written authorization from yourhealth care provider to administer these kinds of preventive creams/ointments, however, we still require yoursigned permission to do so. Please see authorization forms included with your enrollment packet.Storage, Administration, Recording and Disposing of MedicationsAll medications will be stored and securely locked in a safe location. We will not administer any prescriptivemedication to a child in our care unless we have prescriptive authority from one of the above types of individuals.After the medications have been safely administered to the child, a record will be kept of the date, time, dose,route, and by whom the medications were administered. The records will be kept confidential and filed in a securelocation. Once the medications are either expired, and finished being used, they will be promptly returned to theparent or guardian for proper disposal.CONTAGIOUS DISEASEIf a child at Alif-Ba-Ta Learning Center is exposed to a contagious disease outside of the center, it is the parentsresponsibility to inform the office of the disease and the date of exposure. The director will then inform the totalCenter population in writing of the disease, which group(s) are in contact with the child exposed to that disease,and what date the disease is supposed to occur. If the child contracts the disease he/she should be kept at home.IMMUNIZATIONSOnly fully vaccinated children will be admitted to the Alif-Ba-Ta Leaning Center.DAILY HEALTH AND HYGIENE AND SAFETY ROUTINESThe following health and hygiene routines are promoted by the Alif-Ba-Ta on a daily basis as part of theiractivities:HAND WASHINGChildren’s hands are washed:When coming in from outside play.After coming in contact with a sick child and/or runny nose.After completing messy crafts or projects.Parent Handbook, Revised 05/23/13

You will be responsible for all medical treatment necessary for your child’s well-being. This is notlimited to emergency room care, ambulance visits and co-pays to your insurance company.CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDSAlif-Ba Ta Learning Center strongly believes in the integration of children with special needs. A policy regardingthe identification of special needs, and government based procedures related to meeting the needs of the child,group, and staff, as well as related financial implications, have been developed.The Admission Policy of the center is non-discriminatory. Children with HIV may be admitted and, in such cases,will be integrated in a manner identical to other children.The staff have undertaken the appropriate training related to universal precautious and are operational at all times.Parents of children with HIV are encouraged but not required to communicate the HIV status of the child toYasmeen, the director. It is veryimportant that the parents inform us of any food allergy and get the proper forms filled out and returned back tothe center as soon as possible.UNIVERSAL PRECAUTION PROCEDURESIntroduction1.1 Staff members are to assume that all body fluids and substances are potentiallyinfectious.1.02 Staff members are to apply the precautions outlined in Section 2.00 for all children1.2 Staff members are to apply the precautions outlined in Section 3.00 for the specifiedsituations or diseases.2.00 Standard Precautions2.01 Hands and other skin surfaces must be washed immediately with soap and water if theyhave been contaminated with moist body substances and before any child contact.2.02 Staff members with cuts, abrasions or skin lesion, that can be covered, must have double barrier protection,i.e. waterproof dressing and glove or double gloves. Otherwise they must refrain from child treatment.2.03 Disposable gloves should be used when contact with mucus membranes, broken skin, or when contact withmoist body substances is likely to occur. Gloves should be changed after contact with each child. Hands areto be washed after gloves are removed.2.05 Masks are worn to protect the mucous membranes of the mouth and nose when blood or body fluids arelikely to be splashed or sprayed.2.06 Linen soiled with blood or body fluids etc. is to be handled in a manner that prevents skin or mucusmembrane exposure, contamination of clothing and avoids transfer of microorganisms to other childrenand environments. Linen must be disposed of in the appropriate double lined plastic bags and must not beplaced on the floor.2.07 Soiled articles, and furniture soiled with body fluids and substances should be cleaned and appropriatelydisinfected or discarded as waste.2.08 Waste contaminated with blood or body fluid must be discarded into an appropriate container for disposal.2.09 Accommodation for isolated children should enable them to receive care of the same quality as is providedto other children in care.2.10 Standard precautions are the baseline of practice with additional precautions for specific situations.2.11 All staff members must clearly identify the precautions required before entering the center.2.12 All staff members are required to be familiar with isolation techniques and their responsibilities forParent Handbook, Revised 05/23/13

The precautions used are selected accordingto the risk identified and the way in which the disease is spread.4.00 Contact Precautions4.01 Contact Precautions are undertaken to prevent the passing of infection (including bacteria andcommunicable diseases) to staff members and other children from infected wounds, skins and articles bydirect contact. Contact Precautions are also undertaken to prevent the transmission of bacteria, which arespread by direct or indirect contact with infected faeces or heavily contaminated articles or gain entry byingestion of the pathogenic organism.4.02 Contact precautions are to be practiced in the following circumstances:Anthrax.Burns / wounds (Major) infected with Staph. The following are numbers that staff can be reached at : 720-629-0979 (Yasmeen). Parents must signan emergency medical treatment form. In the event of a medical emergency concerning your child, we will make everyeffort to contact you. If you cannot be reached, or time does not allow an attempt, the release form will be used.EMERGENCY SITUATIONSEmergency Drills: The center will practice fire drills monthly. Other emergency drills for severe weather, lockdown,reverse evacuation and shelter-in place must be held 2 times each year. Emergency drills will be conducted at varying timesof the day and week with all children and adults participating. Drill logs will list the names of all children and adults whoparticipated, the date, time and type of drill. We feel that with the adequate advance preparation and safety conscienceforethought, that accidents will be minimal and hopefully avoided.Any emergency requiring early cloosure: If a situation arises during regular program hours, that is an emergency, thestaff will arrange for an emergency substitute to come in, supervise the children, and call all of the parents/guardians toadvise them of the situation. Parents and/or guardians are expected to pick up their children within the hour. No tuitionreimbursement will occur.Accidental Poisoning:• The staff will call the poison center• Staff will determine what the child got into• Follow the poison center’s recommendations• Call 911 if necessary.• Alert one of the parents of the incident.• Fill out accident form and mail in to Human Services.Adverse Weather: Should it become too hot or too cold in the center and the staff deems it as an unsafe situation, theywill contact the parents to come and pick up their children immediately.Automobile Accident:• Should the any staff member be involved in a car accident, they will attend to the needs of the children, findalternate transportation to the center if necessary, and notify all the parents of children in care. If the staffmember is incompacitated, there will be copies of the children’s records on file in the vehicle to aid the rescuecrew.Blizzard:• Parents will be notified to pick up their children early before roads are inaccessible.• Parents unable to access the center shall call the center to make arrangementsfor an alternate individual to pick up their child in their absence.Child Not Picked up By Closing:• If a child is not picked up by closing time and the staff has not been contacted, they will try to call both parentsand then the other people listed to pick up on the enrollment application. As required by the State, ifno one can be reached, the staff will call the police and report them as abandoned. Staff will require the childto be picked up by the State authorized agency. A snack will be provided to the child if the child remainsin the center beyond closing.Earthquake:• Children will be moved to the safest area in the lowest level if not already on that floor.• The following supplies are stored in the center for emergency purposes: bottled water, food, blankets,first aid, telephone, batteries, and a flashlight.• Call 911 and parents to notify them of the situation.• Wait for help to arrive if necessary. Use equipment supplies (contains toys, battery operated radio,flashlight, gallon of water, canned/dry food, cups, first aid supplies, extra batteries, and a blanket).• If a relocation is necessary, children will be transported by a staff member to a safe location in the 15passenger Chevy Express Van or relocate on foot. Once relocated, staff should take roll to account for allchildren present and immediately notify parents of the relocation. Staff will keep in communication withtheir cell phones.Electrical Storms/High Winds/Hail: During electrical storms children will be kept away from windows and electricdevices. All electric devices not required to be used will be turned off. Children afraid of thunder and lightening will becalmed to the best of staff ability.• Gather all children and retreat to the area of the lowest level away from all windows.• Count children and retrieve any not accounted for.• Call 911 if necessary.• Treat any child who may need first aid.• Notify Parents and 911 if necessary.• Read books and play games to entertain the children.• Comfort any children who are scared.• Listen to the radio/news and stay in the alternate child care area until it’s safe to exit.Fire: We have three exits from the lower level, two windows and the stairs. In case of a fire, the children will be takenthrough the lower level door and we’ll meet in the front of the center. On the main level of the center, children will exit outthe front or door. Once outside staff will:• Call 911• Wait for help to arrive.• If a relocation is necessary, children will be transported by a staff member to a safe location in the 15passenger Chevy Express Van or relocate on foot. Once relocated, staff should take roll to account for allchildren present and immediately notify parents of the relocation. Staff will keep in communication withtheir cell phones.Evacuation from the lower level:• Remove children through the lower level door or one of the windows leading to back of the center.• Meet in the front of the center.• Count all children to verify all are present.• Ask a neighboring business to call about the fire.Parent Handbook, Revised 05/23/13

Staff will keep in communication with their cell phones.Evacuation from the prayer level:• Remove children through main door, or safest window area.• If children are on other levels of the center, get them remove from the highest levels of the center first andwork down toward the lower level.• Proceed through main door and meet in the front of the center• Count all children to verify all are present.• Ask a neighboring business to call about the fire.• If all children are not present, tell the firemen where the child was.• Immediately notify parents of the situation.• If a relocation is necessary, children will be transported by a staff member to a safe location in the 15passenger Chevy Express Van or relocate on foot. Once relocated, staff should take roll to account for allchildren present and immediately notify parents of the relocation. Staff will keep in communication withtheircell phones.Flood: In the case of a flood, all children will be moved to the highest level of the center.• Move all children from the lower level to the upper level. If more than two children unable to climb thestairs on their own, take two and return for the others.• Get Cell Phone• Call 911 and parents to notify them of the situation.• If a relocation is necessary, children will be transported by a staff member to a safe location in the 15passenger Chevy Express Van or relocate on foot. Once relocated, provider should take roll to account forallchildren present and immediately notify parents of the relocation. Staff will keep in communication withtheircell phones.Gas Leak/Neighborhood Evacuation:• Load children into 15 passenger, Chevy Express vehicle or walk on foot and go the closest safe businesslocation.• Call all parents as to our condition and location and request them to pick up their children immediately.Adverse Weather: Should it become too hot or too cold in the center that the staff deems asan unsafe situation, they will contact the parents to come and pick up their childimmediately.Injured Child:Parent Handbook, Revised 05/23/13
  21. 21. • Small bumps, scrapes and cuts will have first aid administered per doctor’s recommendations on the healthform.• The parent will be notified at pick up time as to what happened.• For injuries more severe, the staff will call 911 and then notify the parents.• Should the child need transported, the staff will relay the parent’s choice of hospital as indicated by intakerecords and the child will either be transported by ambulance or in the center’s 15 passenger van.Lost Child:Lost from center:• If a child is lost, all remaining children will be gathered in one area while the staff checks theremainder of that floor of the missing child.• Ask other children if they saw where the child went.• Check other levels of the center.• Check outdoors, looking up and down the street, shouting the child’s name.• Check the back of center.• If the child cannot be found, the police and parents will be notified.Lost during Field Trip:• Gather remaining children and have them stay with another staff member, an employee of site, or with aschool-age child so the staff member can check the remainder of that floor of the missing child.• Ask other children if they saw where the missing child went.• Check outdoors, looking up and down the street, shouting the child’s name.• Check other levels of the building.• If lost at the park/outside, place all remaining children in the car and drive around checking adjoiningblocks.• If the child cannot be found, the police and parents will be notified.Lockdown:• Direct all children in the center, to the main center area of the lower level.• Check all windows and doors to be sure they are locked and secured on all levels of the building.• Keep children away from windows to prevent any intruder from seeing in the building.• Turn out lights and computer monitors.• Keep children quiet.• Notify all parents of the lockdown and advise that they will be contacted when it is safe to pick up theirchild.• Stay in safe areas until directed by law enforcement officers or staff to move or evacuate. Neveropen doors during a lockdown, even in the event of a fire alarm. For further directives, lawenforcement officers and staff will have keys to open the doors or announcements will be made.• Staff will contact all parents when the lockdown has been lifted.• If a relocation from the center is necessary, children will be directed by a law enforcementofficer or staff to a safe location. Children will be loaded in the center’s 15 passenger van to berelocated or will relocate on foot. Once evacuated from the center, staff should take roll to account forall children present and immediately notify parents of the relocation. Once evacuated from the building, staff should take roll to accountfor all children present and immediately notify parents of the relocation. Staff will keep incommunication with their cell phones.• Shelter-in place: Persons (staff and children) who are in the building will seek shelter in the buildingfrom an external threat. Once in a safe location staff will:• Call 911 if necessary• Notify parents of situation.• If a relocation from the center is necessary, children will be directed by a law enforcementofficer or staff to a safe location.
