While these exams are taken between the ages of 14 and 16, they still hold a special value for university application judgement. The main importance when preparing for the IGCSE exams is to initiate a study plan, to reduce stress and anxiety. YCIS Beijing has created several tips to prepare students and their parents for the IGCSE exams:

  • 3. Outlining A Plan of Action Hard work & dedication Feedback Guidance PositivityPatience Tips for taking the exams • Attaining IGCSE qualifications can aid students in accessing higher education and eventually the world‟s best universities. • While there are no shortcuts to attaining high grades in the IGCSE exams, there are some ways of developing your plan of study and preparing for the exams that can make life significantly easier (and less stressful) for parents and students alike.
  • 4. Tip #1 Feedback It is much better to improve how you approach a task, taking in to account feedback, than simply repeat over and over. Even though they say „practise makes perfect,‟ it often the case that correctly receiving and using feedback „makes perfect.‟ In fact, feedback is vital for practising and improving. Parents should advise children to seek extra help from tutors and advisors if their children are having difficulties understanding and completing a task. This will provide students with the basis to solve these problems. This will help them use their new knowledge to solve further problems and expand it into wider disciplines.
  • 5. Tip #2 Guidance Many students do not have a clear vision of what their interests and goals in life are. So how are they best helped to choose which subjects to study further? • In consultation with their families and school guidance personnel, students should consider which subjects they should study given their abilities and goals in life. • YCIS Beijing provides students with guidance to help them choose from a wide range of subjects, which will challenge them by improving their creative and analytical skills.
  • 6. Tip #3 Positivity Keeping a confident attitude towards students helps them to be far more confident themselves, which also helps them to remain positive, even when having difficulties. Students should be encouraged to be as social as possible. This also entails regarding classmates not as competition, but as friends.
  • 7. Tip #4 Patience It is important to teach children an appreciation of the process of growth. Studying always takes time and effort. Improving skills requires patience and dedication. Anything which is worth doing will take time. Rushing to complete tasks will inevitably lead to longer overall completion time. Feelart/ freedigitalphotos.net
  • 8. Tips for taking the exam The first thing you should do is read through the exam paper, so you know what is coming and can plan accordingly. Read When drawing diagrams, use a pencil. You may need to make changes, which will be much harder with a pen. Rough Always make sure you use the correct units, whether „kg‟ or „m/s‟ etc. Not doing so is a foolish way of dropping marks which could be vital. Units
