Mobile Commerce is now fueling billions of dollars in transactions at some of the big online commerce providers. The increase in smartphone penetration, faster mobile network speeds and rising consumer awareness and comfort with mobile payments make the continued expansion of the trend almost inevitable. But unfortunately Mobile Commerce is often confused with either Mobile e-commerce or just Mobile Payments alone. In this session, we will cover what Mobile Commerce really encapsulates, and how it offers the greatest opportunity for developers in redefining the shopping experiences for millions of consumers. You will be introduced to "X.commerce", the open commerce platform by eBay, demonstrating on how you can utilize it to build Mobile Commerce apps using both eBay and 3rd party commerce solutions like QR/Bar Code scanning, Payments, Location-based-Services, Inventory management, etc.

  • Commerce has evolved in the last 20 years or so from just being Commerce to eCommerce to now the latest hot trend mCommerce. If you look back and start reading the way these are defined it’s kind of misleading what commerce is.Commerce: Trading of something of economic value such as goods, services, information or money between two or more entitieseCommerce: Buying and selling of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networksmCommerce: Buying and selling of products or services using a mobile device
  • People refer to these as mCommerce. Advertising, payments, ticketing, banking, entertainment – yeah they kind of make sense but one would wonder is that what mCommerce is all about ?
  • Commerce is more than buying and selling products online! No one just goes to a store (physical or online) and buys something – there’s quite a lot that goes into making that purchase happen.

  • Now I’m pretty sure several of you might have heard about Social Commerce. Most of the people think Social commerce is all about buying and selling of goods over Social media (Facebook and Twitter) – right ? Wikipedia says….
  • Wikipedia says…. – now this makes sense isn’t it. It’s more than just buying and selling things – it’s about social interactions, and how they help in buying and selling of goods.
  • Which applies to each and every phase of a commerce transaction. Now take this and apply to mobile – given the way mobile devices are evolving and changing the way we shop, mobile commerce is more than selling and buying goods over a mobile device
  • It’s about assisting in each and every phase of the commerce transaction – this is what it makes any where, any time and any how!
  • As we have seen or still seeing, the way people shop is changing almost every day.
  • People just look at the mobile commerce estimates by various analytics and totally miss the bigger opportunities in the world of commerce. This is a good example of how big the web assisted commerce is – it’s almost as big as offline commerce.So you would ask what are we doing to help developers succeed.
