Performance Testing leading to huge cost savings for a large retail
giant of the US.
Performance, stress and load testing for the largest retail company in Canada and US
World’s largest home improvement specialty retailer, with several chains of retail stores in US and Canada.
The primary objective was the product testing and the challenge realized was that the product had never undergone for
testing. There was an immediate need to establish a robust test strategy along with verifying enhancement packages without
disrupting ongoing operations and identifying logical business flows and doing performance testing on them.
Xavient executed performance testing for the client and transitioned all performance test projects from the client’s
existing vendor within a month’s time.
Xavient executed over 400 performance test projects across different business functions like Retail, Merchandising,
Supply Chain, HR, IT QA and SAP under Enterprise QA organization.
Canada First Phone
o Client was introducing handheld devices in stores and replacing the current mobile order cart solution, which
used Sybase Unwired Platform – SUP technology earlier that was never tested before. Xavient Identified
critical business flows and performed successful tests as per client standards.
Workforce Management System (WMS)
o Worked on multiple releases of WMS to verify the enhancements, tested package break/fix and stability
related changes to improve the usability of the software. Challenge was to predict the unexpected behavior
of the application while injecting data during execution and handling test scripts at the same time without
letting user abort the application.
o Xavient tested the most logical flows as per client’s standards ensuring business integrity, Intuitive Reports
to identify the bottlenecks and issues, (CPU / Memory / Disk / Processes / Network layer Analysis,
Integration Testing – With TMS, RTS and FM application).
PLM (Product Lifecycle Management)
o Xavient identified and executed performance test for critical business flows for DB update AMF calls with unserialized hexadecimal codes to handle workflow enhancements to support business process changes and
SKU setup activities with IDM.

Canada first phone – The testing was successfully completed in given aggressive timeline of 4 weeks. Utilizing Xavient’s
expertise, the client saved approx. $100,000 as compared to the cost the client would have incurred while using
SAP/Sybase for its testing harness and services.
WMS quantitative improvements were observed in the response time, as downtime percentage reduced from 5% to 2%.
Application business user concurrency increased from 200 users to 250 concurrent users.
PLM was a huge step forward and a major success in establishing the new benchmark in Flex performance testing.
Handling AMF calls with un-serialized hexadecimal codes with irregular patterns was an intense challenge to beat against.
