Key Message Traditionally, Cisco’s innovation philosophy has focused on three areas. The first is “Build” or internal development of new technologies and products. The second, “Buy”, is our acquisition strategy to enter new markets or enhance existing ones. ( 130 acquisitions to date) Lastly, Cisco has created a world class “Partner” model to bring solutions to market. Collaboration is the next step in this model… to generate innovative ideas and next generation products. Innovative companies like 3M and Google allow workers to spend a percentage of their time on their own pet projects. This is how they feed their innovation engine. At Cisco, we’ve broadened this approach beyond the individual to engage people both inside and outside the company. I will come onto that again later. Another example of this approach to innovation is the ongoing collaboration between Cisco and its strategic partners to develop joint solutions. Our innovation model leverages the following investments: Invest $4.5 Billion R&D annually 22,000+ Engineers in >10 labs WW * Patents are often used as a means to measure Innovation TRANSITION 4200+ Patents to Cisco inventors – which in actual fact is not that many but…
Innovation is part of our culture.
