DBT to unveil draft of 'Ignition Grant Policy'
NEW DELHI: The Central Government is expected to announce its new draft policy
‘Ignition Grant’ in the near future. Earlier, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT)
had promised to come up with this grant policy by the end of 2011.
Dr Renu Swarup, Adviser, Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of
Biotechnology, has said that ignition grant is under approval and DBT is likely to an-
nounce it very soon. The main objective of this grant is to promote the scientists and
researchers for innovation of new technologies and research activities. Though the
details of the draft has not come to fore, but experts from biotechnology sector are ex-
pecting to get Rs 500 crore ignition fund for four schemes.
“Over 75 per cent of the start ups in this country are cash strapped and could not take
their innovation ahead. Thus the timing is right for the DBT, to announce the much-
awaited ignition grant policy to boost angel investments in the country,” said Kapil
Khandelwal, advisory board member- Grant Scheme at Biotech Industry Research
Assistance Programme.
