Oh Little Town of
Bethlehem
ELW #279
O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie;
Above thy deep
and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets
shineth
The everlasting light;
The hopes and fears
of all the years
Are met in thee tonight.
For Christ is born of Mary;
And gathered all above,
While mortals sleep
the angels keep
Their watch of wond'ring love.
O morning stars together
Proclaim the holy birth;
And praises sing
to God the king,
And peace to all the earth.
How silent, how silently
The wondrous gift is giv'n!
So God imparts
to human hearts
The blessings of his heav'n.
No ear may hear his coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls
will receive him still,
The dear Christ enters in.
O holy Child of
Bethlehem,
Descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin
and enter in,
Be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord, Emmanuel.

    96. 96. Wake, awake, for night is flying, the watchmen on the heights are crying: awake, Jerusalem, at last. Midnight hears the welcome voices, and at the thrilling cry rejoices; Come forth, you maidens! Night is past
    97. 97. The bridegroom comes! Awake: Your lamps with gladness take! Alleluia! Raise and prepare the feast to share; go, meet the bridegroom, who draws near

    119. 119. My Hope is Built on Nothing Less #597 ELW
    120. 120. My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness; no merit of my own I claim, but wholly lean on Jesus' name. On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.
    121. 121. When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace; in ev'ry high and stormy gale my anchor holds within the veil. On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.
    122. 122. His oath, his covenant, his blood sustain me in the raging flood; when all supports are washed away, he then is all my hope and stay. On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.
    123. 123. When he shall come with trumpet sound, oh, may I then in him be found, clothed in his righteousness alone, redeemed to stand before the throne! On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.
    124. 124. APOSTLES’ CREED ELW p. 105 I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
    125. 125. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.
    126. 126. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
    127. 127. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
    128. 128. Offering and Announcements
    129. 129. OFFERTORY PRAYER God of hope, you bless our lives with gifts which enable us to live in harmony with you and with one another. In Jesus you have revealed the human face of your love and empowered us with the Holy Spirit
    130. 130. to reveal that same love in all we do and say and are these gifts we offer in response seem paltry in comparison, but we offer them and our lives confident that you will receive, bless and use them in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, and our Savior. Amen

    132. 132. HOLY Communion COMMUNION

    135. 135. Each Winter As The Year Grows Older ELW #252
    136. 136. Each winter as the year grows older, we each grow older too. The chill sets in a little colder; the verities we knew seem shaken and untrue.
    137. 137. When race and class cry out for treason, when sirens call for war, they over shout the voice of reason and scream till we ignore all we held dear before.
    138. 138. Yet I believe beyond believing, that life can spring from death; that growth can flower from our grieving; that we can catch our breath and turn transfixed by faith.
    139. 139. So even as the sun is turning to journey to the north, the living flame, in secret burning, can kindle on the earth and bring God’s love to birth.
    140. 140. O Child of ecstasy and sorrows, O Prince of peace and pain, brighten today’s world by tomorrow’s, renew our lives again; Lord Jesus, come and reign.
    141. 141. Post Communion Communion Blessing

    144. 144. Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith, whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe: be there at our labors and give us, we pray, your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day.
    145. 145. Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace, your hands swift to welcome your arms to embrace: be there at our homing, and give us, we pray, your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day.
    146. 146. Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm, whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm: be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray, your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day.
