  • I appreciate the fact that there are so many professional women experience the same 'social anxiety' and are willing to share their experience and advice to overcome it. As a professional 'party entertainer' for women's bedroom accessories, I know that I only have one time to empress. I turn off 'Introvert Linda' and turn on 'Lively Lola'... yes, I have an alter ego and she has been a valuable asset to my persona! Thanks again ladies for sharing!

  • I saw a humorous sign the other day...it had a fist held high and said, 'Introverts Un-unite!' We're a special group of deep thinkers and quiet conversations. I appreciate the tips because it is easy to become overwhelmed in group settings. Mustering the energy to meet the giddy extroverted world is doable for short bursts, but then I need to fall back on tools like these.

  • Judy M: I always share this Dale Carnegie quote in my keynotes on networking: “You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” - Dale Carnegie, How to Win Friends and Influence People
    one of my all-time favs!

  • Thank you so much for posting this. All the input from others is very helpful. I struggle with being an introvert in the work place every day. Finding a job as an introvert is a challenge, I welcome the help.

  • 1. Networking for Introverts (Really!)The women of Connect: Professional Women’s Network share advice onhow to work a room—even if you’re the shyest person in it.
  • 2. A mentor gave me this advice: Act as the host of the event. At the next event I greeted everyone and then introduced the people that I had met to others. I acted as if it was my role to make everyone Susan Rosner comfortable. It worked and I enjoyed the one-on-one Business and Executive Coach conversations!©2013 LinkedIn Corporation. • 3. I feel strongly that you have to find the type of networking event that is conducive to your style. Happy hours are my worst nightmare, but small, structured events that take place before or Beth Buelow after a speaker or workshop—those all work for me.Speaker, Author, Coach©2013 LinkedIn Corporation. • 4. A while back I changed my focus when going to networking events from promoting myself to seeing them as an opportunities to meet at least one new person, discover their story, and find out what I can Jennifer Goyette learn from them. Somehow that took the pressure off.Marketing and Management ©2013 LinkedIn Corporation. All Rights Reserved. CONNECT: PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S NETWORK 4
  • 5. Socializing in large groups may not work for introverts. Focusing on meaningful one-on-one relationships with fewer people might work better. Identify people with whom you click, and then schedule Elena Filimonova periodic lunch or happy-hour meetings with them. IT Manager, UnitedHealth Group©2013 LinkedIn Corporation. All Rights Reserved. • 6. Social networks are the perfect platform for introverts! Youre able to speak freely without having to be face-to-face with someone. And then, when you are comfortable with a connection youve Theresa Merrill nurtured, you can take the relationship offline.Social Media Consultant©2013 LinkedIn Corporation. All Rights Reserved. • 7. Touch base with people you know are attending a networking event in advance, and ask them to introduce you to a few other people. The same concept applies to online networking. Ask friends and Helene Clark colleagues to think of a few folks they think you should meet, and Senior Executive in the Foodservice Industry ask them to facilitate an introduction.©2013 LinkedIn Corporation. • 8. Do not dress in an understated manner. People wont see you. You want to attract people to you so you dont have to go out and "pounce.” Wear red. It attracts people, and when people come to Sandy Dumont you, it eliminates stress. Sandy Dumont International©2013 LinkedIn Corporation. All Rights Reserved. CONNECT: PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S NETWORK 8
  • 9. For me, like going from driving peacefully on a quiet secondary road to entering a speeding packed freeway. Once you get over the initial panic, hold onto the wheel really tight and just remember that Bridget Murphy you, too, know how to drive! Alternative Medicine©2013 LinkedIn Corporation.
