  • 7. Anatomy of a blog, circa 1998, yo. Real power of blogs is their networked nature: Links aren’t presented in isolation but placed into new context, which is often explained with commentary.
  • 8. Social media platforms are company controlled blogging platforms.
  • 9. So Why Does Everyone Use These Platforms Instead of a Real Blog?
  • 10. They offer a few things that WordPress doesn't.
  • 11. 1. Ease of use, ease of access
  • 12. 2. Ease of connections, ease of feedback
  • 13. 3. Combination of feed and publishing
  • 14. 4. Perception of "privacy"
  • 15. The Perception Problem
  • 16. Rants, Editorials and Essays (oh my)
  • 17. Content Marketing Industry
  • 18. In short, people think blogging is for “bloggers”
  • 19. Who cares? Why not just blog on Facebook? STFU already.
  • 20. Centralized, but not on you
  • 21. Ownership & Control
  • 22. Increasing Fragmentation
  • 23. 1 A way forward with WordPress (and true social interaction)
  • 24. Blog first, tweet later
  • 25. Pick one person.
  • 26. A new plug-in. 2
  • 27. For now, let’s give it a “social” name, with a bad open-source logo.
  • 28. Here’s what it needs to do (at its most basic).

  • 32. When I'm logged in, show me my feed.
  • 33. Make it easy for people to join my site (so I can assign them roles).
  • 34. For now, distribute and collect from my other profiles.
  • 35. Social Media is only part of the evolution of blogging.
  • 36. Blogging will continue to be the web’s paradigm. “Social” is just the next layer we need to add.
