Upon successful defense of the dissertation, students will be recommended for issuanceof a Ph.D. degree via the Graduate School. Because this course spans several semesters, students will be given an“I” until the last semester when the dissertation is defended successfully.True OutcomesTrue Outcomes was a tool used by the University for Assessment Purposes. Currently, PVAMU is transitioningfrom it to another assessment tool for students. The new assessment tool and artifacts for summer 2011 will beannounced during the course of the semester.eCoursesPVAMU is moving to a new course management system (CMS) for online and web-assisted courses. Failure to identify information or essays from the Internet and submitting them as one’s own work also constitutes plagiarism.Nonacademic misconduct (See Student Handbook)The university respects the rights of instructors to teach and students to learn. Maintenance of these rights requirescampus conditions that do not impede their exercise. Campus behavior that interferes with either (1) the instructor’sability to conduct the class, (2) the inability of other students to profit from the instructional program, or (3) campusbehavior that interferes with the rights of others will not be tolerated. An individual engaging in such disruptivebehavior may be subject to disciplinary action. Excessive absences will result in lowered grades.Excessive absenteeism, whether excused or unexcused, may result in a student’s course grade being reduced or inassignment of a grade of “F”. Absences are accumulated beginning with the first day of class.Student Academic Appeals ProcessAuthority and responsibility for assigning grades to students rests with the faculty. However, in those instanceswhere students believe that miscommunication, errors, or unfairness of any kind may have adversely affected theinstructors assessment of their academic performance, the student has a right to appeal by the procedure listed inthe Undergraduate Catalog and by doing so within thirty days of receiving the grade or experiencing any otherproblematic academic event that prompted the complaint.Two “C” RulePlease Note: Continual matriculation at PVAMU requires that no more than two C’s shall be earned in a graduatedegree program.
