  2. 2. It is not only essential to learn the breakthroughs and innovations of the machining tools and equipment with the changing time but also to identify basic equipment. Machining nowadays has become a hobby, job or both. Therefore, it is important to know the basic tools which are the lathes, drill and mill. Under these are different types of tools used in a machine shop and its processes.<br />

Boring on the lathe, center drilling, counter sinking, and reaming, collets, four jaw chuck, grooving, operations and control, and three jaw chuck are all associated to engine lathes.<br />The computer numerical control (CNC) is a type of drilling machine that is automated and utilizes electricity to operate. Other electric machines include: electrical discharge machining, electrochemical machining, electron beam machining etc.<br />

The basic machining processes on the other hand are turning, drilling and milling while its secondary activities are shaping, planning, boring, turning, drilling and milling.<br />The tool used for turning is the lathe. Turning is the first method to rotate a workpiece and remove against a cutting tool. <br />Milling operations meanwhile is the rotating of the cutting tool to bring the edges to the workpiece. For this particular type of process, the milling machine is the one used. <br />The drill presses are used in drilling operations. The drill presses purpose is to create wholes to bring the rotating cutter with the cutting edges. <br />Lastly, a miscellaneous operation just like burnishing produce no swarf but can do the work just like what a lathe, mill or drill press can do.<br />

The cutting fluid is applied to the machine to cool and lubricate the machine. The water jet cutting is an innovation in the cutting machine, it involves pressurized water and is able to cut metal with ease and at the same time have a finish product.<br />

Machinists:<br />This process is known as cold cutting which increases efficiency as compared to laser and plasma cutting.<br />In the United States, although the course on machining has been eradicated, still a lot of people are engaged into that kind of business. In fact, listed in the internet site are the locations and names of the machine shops. <br />There are also machinist or hobbyist who prefer to also use the internet for promotion and information. Some of these people may either prefer small or big machines depending on space, resources and preference of the machinist.<br />
  7. 7. Establishing a machine shop is never easy.<br />Hurdles will always come along the way. And the vital thing to think of is the budget. Having the first machine- mill, lathe or drill could be very hard. People should not only base financial investment on the first machine purchase.<br />

There is always an opportunity cost in all actions.
