This is the presentation I made on Social Marketing at the 2008 Kitchen Conference in Portland, OR. It covers off on four key topics:
- The discrepancy between marketers and consumers
- The growing "wrong direction" many marketers are headed in
- How peer/social referral is the future of marketers' revenue
- Some of the tools and approaches that can get you started
This take on marketing is the culmination of many years in the biz and the deck came together very quickly a few nights ago. It will be rewritten as the thoughts continue to solidify in my mind.
Marketers should understand that this isn't an indictment against marketing, just against efforts to control customers rather than work with them.
