Slide 1: Carbon Neutral Door to Door
Slide 2: The future of the planet is on everyone's mind • Consumers and businesses are increasingly concerned with the environment • Many companies are now looking seriously at the environmental impact of their activities, and how they can minimise the carbon they produce and offset the remainder • As a responsible UK business we have already made great strides in this area, and now we are helping our customers to do the same with their mailing activities
Slide 3: The environment is important to the UK • Consensus is that increased carbon emissions will result in accelerated global warming with significant environmental impacts • Recent years have been hottest and wettest on global record – the UK has experienced extremes of weather • The UK produces 500 million tons of carbon each year • UK Govt target is to reduce carbon emissions by 60% by 2050 – but progress is slow
Slide 4: The environment is important to consumers • 48% see global warming as the biggest threat to the planet – up from 36% in 2004 • 70% have “personal experience” of global warming • Consumers are increasingly seeking to reduce consumption and/or adopt a carbon neutral lifestyle • Business are responding to this need and it is now possible to purchase carbon off-set for petrol, electricity or foreign holidays Source: The Co-operative Bank (2005)
Slide 5: The environment is important to business • 57% of consumers have recommended a company on the basis of its responsible reputation • 58% have avoided a product or service because of the company’s reputation • 35% have actively sought information on a company’s reputation • 35% have felt guilty about unethical purchase(s) Source: The Co-operative Bank (2005)
Slide 6: Carbon Neutral Door to Door • We are offering all our Door to Door customers the opportunity to make their mailings carbon neutral • Not only will we help you to minimise the carbon footprint of your unaddressed mailings, but we will actually pay to offset the carbon that is produced, right from print and production through to delivery
Slide 7: What it means to you • You adopt environmental best practice in item production to meet our specification, and sign up to the T&C’s • We will then pay to offset the carbon emissions attributable to your Door to Door mailing • This will cover paper production, design and print and distribution of the mailing • A “Royal Mail Carbon Neutral Mailing” logo must be used on the mailing, along with recycling logo
Slide 8: The specification • Use paper with a minimum of 50% recycled content, and any virgin paper is sourced from suppliers from an accredited forest certification scheme • Use production partners (printers and mailing houses, for example) with an environmental management scheme in place • Use vegetable based or recycled inks • Use aqueous (or non-oil based) varnishes • Use the “Royal Mail Carbon Neutral Mailing” logo and a suitable recycling logo • For full details visit www.royalmail.com/responsible
