    • Introduction:Automatic doors are the doors which open by itself when any object come closeto specific area opposite the doors. In this case, no need to open the doormanually with a bar or door handling. Some automatic doors are work by using abutton that makes the door open. Doors like that are very important and it usedin many places such as shopping malls, hospitals, universities, schools, industrialplaces, tracks. These days, there is no building that doesn’t have automatic doors. There are many designs for automatic doors such as slide open. Another one isconsisting of panels that fold when people come approach to the door. Othertype is one which swings in or out. The automatic door surely has a controlsystem that control when to open or close the doors. The control systems havesensors which act when object come close and it can be adjusted by thecustomers need. If a button is provided for automatic doors, it should be in lowlevel so it can be convenient for disable people. Another factor of automaticdoors are electricity for the operation. Electricity will run the motor which openup the door. That doesn’t mean the door will be only opened by electricity. Infact, if the door fails to work due to electrical or mechanical issues, there isanother manual method to open the door for safety reasons. There are alsosensors that make the door stay open that’s when any object stands between thetwo doors so number of accidents will be reduced. This kind of safety ideas willensure safe operation of automatic doors.
    • Types of automatic door systemTwin glider door Figure 2 Figure 1Twin glider doors are type of bus door systems. This kind of door system for bus issuitable for city-bus entrance and exit doorways. The door has big area of glassthat let you have a nice appearance and also it shows for the driver the ultimatesideway vision as you can see in figure 1. The door leaves will be carried on steelshaft. Door leaves are also located at the bottom by bearings bolted to the step. Italso suspended from the overhead mechanism.
    • Folding DoorFigure 3Another type of door system is folding door. This kind of system is convenient forentrance of the doors up to 950 mm wide. Foldingdoors are joined solidly and this kind of system iseconomical. Also folding door is a type of automaticdoors that works by folding back in certain number ofsections. Folding doors are discovered by Figure 4Roman. Another name of folding door isaccordion door or accordion partitions.Electric Folding Door MechanismThe cylinder will be used as a driving mechanism to open/close the folding dooras you can see in figure 4. The advantages of this system that it has a compact
    • structure perfect performance and long service life, as well as with additionalsafety protection of against being clamped.Glider door Figure 5Figure 6Glider door is an automatic door that designed for small buses. It is suitable forapertures up to 750mm wide, but with a heavier shaft and larger actuator it canbe used for aperture widths up to one meter. It can be shaped to fit flush with aprofiled body-side, and has the advantage over a pivot door in that it does notsweep forward as it opens and so can be located closer to the front of the buswithout conflict with the windscreen or front rim.
    • Sliding plug doorFigure 7Another type of automatic door system that is designed for low floor bus. Itconsists of both electrical system and mechanical system. Sliding plug doorincludes door operator, door shaft and door panels. The door operator consists ofdriving mechanism, plugging mechanism, hanging mechanism, guidingmechanism, and locking & unlocking mechanism.
    • Swing plug doorIt’s type of automatic door system. It has a remotely powered auxiliary lockmechanism, door striker, catch and manual release system for use on light tomedium duty shuttle or utility vehicles. It’s include a door operator and base plateassembly, a shaft and arm assembly.
    • ComparisonAfter knowing the operations and specification of the five types of automatic doorsystems for the bus. Twin glider door advantages are maintenance is free, veryheavy duty and double glide handle guidance. Folding door also has advantagessuch as easy installing, locked from both sides and space saver. Disadvantages offolding door are scratching occurs on mirror surface of the folding doors, Bi-folding steel doors are very sensitive to harsh cleaners and use of ammonia basedacid or alkali cleaners on folding mirror doors is very harmful. All in all, I prefer thetwin glider door because the door moves in short distance which makes it fast tooperate with less time.
