Straits

  1. 1.  The Bering Strait, known to natives as Imakpik , is a sea strait between Cape Dezhnev, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Russia. This would have allowed humans to walk from Siberia to Alaska, thus populating North and South America.
  2. 2.  The Strait of Malacca is a narrow, 805 km (500 mi) stretch of water between the Malay Peninsula (Peninsular Malaysia) and the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The Strait of Malacca is one of the most important shipping lanes in the world.
  3. 3.  The Taiwan Strait or Formosa Strait, formerly known as the Black Ditch, is a 180-km-wide strait separating Mainland China and Taiwan. The strait is part of the South China Sea and connects to East China Sea to the northeast.
