How to perform Salah

  1. 1. Imam Ali said: “When a person stands up forprayers, Iblis approaches him and looks at him withenvy and jealousy, as he sees the Mercy of Allahencompassing the person.” (Biharul Anwar, Volume 82, Page 207) www.voqonline.com

  3. 3. Takbir The hands are raised level with shoulders or level with top of the ears, with fingers apart and not spaced out or together. And say: Allahu Akbar Allah is the Greatest www.voqonline.com
  4. 4. SanaaStand up straight, with your hands folded. Yourright hand should be over your left, and theyshould overlap till the wrists only. Men placetheir folded hands below their navel, andwomen at chest level.Recite the following:Subhaanak-Allaahumma, wa biham-dika, wa tabaarakasmuka, wa taaalaajadduka, wa laa ilaaha ghayruk.O Allah, how perfect You are and praise be to You.   5. 5. The beginning of the first RakatRrecite:Audhu billahi minash shaitanir rajim.I seek shelter in Allah from the rejected Satan.Then recite:Bismillahir rahmanir rahim.In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful. www.voqonline.com
  6. 6. Recite Surah Al-FatihahAl hamdu lil lahi rabbil alamin. Arrahmanir rahim. Maliki yawmiddin. Iyyakanabudu wa iyyaka nastain. Ihdinas siratal mustaqim. Siratal ladhinaanamtaalaihim, ghairil maghdubialaihim wa lad dhallin.All praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, the most Gracious, the mostMerciful; Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, from You alone weseek help. Guide us along the straight path - the path of those whom You favored, notof those who earned Your anger or went astray. www.voqonline.com

Qul aAAoothu birabbi annas Maliki annas Ilahiannas Min sharri alwaswasi alkhannas Allathee yuwaswisu fee sudoori annasMina aljinnati wannasIn the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful. Say, "I seek refuge in theLord of mankind, The Sovereign of mankind. The God of mankind, From the evil ofthe retreating whisperer – Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind – Fromamong the jinn and mankind." www.voqonline.com
  8. 8. RukuUnfold your hands and bow down saing:Allahu AkbarAllah is the Greatest Then placing your hands on your knees. The back, should become parallel to the ground. It is essential to completely bow, not just tilt your body at 45o to the vertical. Recite the following:Subhana Rabbiyal Adhim. (3 times)How Perfect is my Lord, the Supreme. www.voqonline.com
  9. 9. Stand up from the bowing position saying: SamiAllahu liman hamidah. Rabbana lakal hamd. Allah hears those who praise Him. Our Lord, praise be to You. www.voqonline.com
  10. 10. SujoodSay:Allahu AkbarAllah is the GreatestProstrate, placing your forehead, palms, and knees on the ground. The bases of bothfeets fingers need to touch the ground. Your forehead must be bare (a coveredforehead invalidates prayer). A womans elbows may touch the ground, but men mustkeep their elbows raised above the ground.Then recite:Subhana Rabbiyal Ala.   11. 11. Sit up from the floor saying:Allahu AkbarAllah is the Greatest Sit upright with your knees bent and palms placed on them. Keep your eyes at your lap. Men turn up the heel, and bend the toes, of the right foot. Women keep both their feet, soles up, under their body. www.voqonline.com
  12. 12. Say:Allahu AkbarAllah is the GreatestAnd again prostrate in the Sujood position.Then recite:Subhana Rabbiyal Ala. (3 times)How Perfect is my Lord, the Highest. www.voqonline.com
  13. 13. The beginning of the second Rakat Stand up sayingAllahu AkbarAllah is the GreatestThen recite:Bismillahir rahmanir rahim.In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful. www.voqonline.com
  14. 14. The second Rakat is identical to the first one up till the second SujoodAfter second Sujood sit up from the floor saying:Allahu AkbarAllah is the Greatest www.voqonline.com
  15. 15. Recite Tashahhud:At-Tahiyyatu lillahi was-Salawatu wat-Tayyibatu. As-Salamu alaikaayyuhannabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Assalamu alaina waalaibadil-Lahis-Salihin ash hadu al-La ilaha il-Lal lahu wa ash hadu annaMohammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu.Greetings, prayers and goodness belong to Allah. Peace be on you, O Prophet andthe mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be on us and on the righteous servantsof Allah I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and bear witness thatMuhammad is His servant and Messenger. www.voqonline.com

In the same posture recite:Allahumma salli ala Muhammadin Wa ala ali Muhammadin Kama sallaita alaIbrahima wa ala ali Ibrahima Innaka hamidun Majid.Allahumma barik ala Muhammadin wa ala ali Muhammadin Kama barakta alaIbrahima Wa ala ali Ibrahima Innaka hamidun Majid.O Allah, let Your mercy come upon Mohammad and the family of Mohammad as Youlet it come upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Truly You are Praiseworthy andGlorious. O Allah, bless Mohammad and the family of Mohammad as You blessedIbrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Truly You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. www.voqonline.com
  17. 17. Then recite:Rabbana atina fi-d-dunya hasanatav-va-fil akhirati hasanatav-va-kinaazabannar.Our Lord, give us goodness in this life and afterlife and protect us from hellfire. www.voqonline.com
  18. 18. Now turn your face to the right saying:Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah.Peace and the mercy of Allah be on you. Then turn your face to the left saying: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah. Peace and the mercy of Allah be on you. www.voqonline.com
