In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
   conventions of real media products?
The story line Of our video was inspired by a movie “monsters inc”
After watching the movie I decided to use the idea of the monster
behaving in a certain way with the expectation of scaring children
and ending up making a child laugh for my music video. However I
adapted this idea to suit the lyrics of the song and genre. Our video
was based on a man intending on avoiding people, but instead he
attracted a girl to him. We also added a twist to the story. When the
man decided he also liked the girl and made an effort to change for
her, she decided she didn’t like him anymore. This sense of irony
really stresses the idea of how events don’t seem to match peoples
intentions, which is what the movie “monsters inc” is about.
Our music video was inspired by a range of Indie bands, similar to our
chosen band.
 Our idea to paint the characters face to represent his isolation and
individuality sparked from watching Arctic Monkeys music video
“fluorescent adolescence”. Their video included clown face paint,
which matched their clown like behaviour. From this we decided to
paint our actors face to match his strange behaviour.
The performance element of our video was
inspired by a couple of Indie bands:
 The first band is the red hot chili
peppers. We added a comical element to
our performance by pulling faces at the
camera and dancing. The red hot chili
peppers are a band that add a brand
    image through their actions and
    behaviour in their performance.

 Another band that influenced our
performance was scouting for girls. They
inspired the location of our performance
element. We were unsure of where we
wanted to film the band and looked at a
range of other indie bands music videos,
such as the red hot chili peppers, the
kooks and artic monkeys. We found a
video by scouting for girls where they
filmed in a place with a relaxed
atmosphere. This idea seemed to suit our
band well, because Indie music is
generally relaxed and the song sounds
    relaxed.
 My digipak design was influenced by a
range of indie bands but most in
particular “The Kings Of Leon”. I liked
how the faces were merged together
and how it created a brand image. I
used this idea and merged my bands
faces together and shaded them blue.
The colour scheme ideas I had were
inspired by many other indie bands,
such as the kooks, the wombats etc
and the chosen colour scheme, chosen
by my target audience was inspired by
    the kings of leon.
 My poster design was also inspired by
many other indie bands. Many indie
bands used the image as a background
but I decided to go by “The Gorilaz”
and have it in an image with the text
around it. I liked this idea as it made
the image appear more prized and
important and drew the eye to it.
 Here are the demographics of my target
audience. These features of my target
audience influenced how I created my
    media products.
 The age of my audience influenced me to
work more creatively to make my products
look bright and eye catching, as it is a
    young audience.
 In my music video I used people in the age
range of my target audience and also the
storyline is something people of that age
    can relate to.
 My target audience are very similar to me
and this helped me be more creative as I
already knew much about my audience.
This allowed me to come up with an
unique idea without having to focus too
much on learning their interests. My
storyline was inspired my monsters inc
which was a popular film when I was
growing up and it would also be familiar to
my target audience. However, I updated
the concept with a storyline to meet the
    age of the audience now.
 The cultural studies approach to
    audience influenced me to
    produce a concept that the
    majority of my audience would
    take a preferred reading to.
 However, because my audience
    are explorers and individualists I
    decided to creatively involve an
    unusual concept (strange face
    paint, dances and merged
faces). They can then relate to
the video and it gives the
    digipak a sense of brand
    identity.
 Also by researching my
    audiences media interests, I
used them as a basis of how to
    present my media products. This
    influenced my creativity by
helping me create a new idea,
    but using colour schemes and
    the format that attract my
    target audience.
 Throughout the project we
    conducted regular audience
    research, whereby we asked
    our target audience what they
    think of our ideas and
    products. The audience
    feedback affected the colours
    and format of my print
    products and how well we
    checked for accurate lip
syncing. We also had to change
a scene due to the audience
    feedback.
 We had to make the storyline
    more clear and make sense.
    This was achieved with more
    sense of emotion.
 There are clear differences
    between my media products
    and real life media products.
This is mainly due to the
    money, time and technology
    available to me.
 I have tried to make my print
    work look as professional and
real as possible and I did this
    by using the same information
    that is usually presented on
    real digipaks and posters, such
    as websites, barcodes and
    record labels.
 To make our music video appear as
professional as real music videos we used
actors for the performance that actually
play those instruments in real life. By doing
this the performance looks more natural.
We also gave the singer a long time to learn
the words of the song and filmed him in a
way he is most comfortable. (without us
watching him). The location of the
performance is similar to a real video from
scouting for girls, so this appears realistic
for a music video. However, it appears
unprofessional but this is expected of an
    unsigned band.
 To ensure our narrative was like a real
media product we chose locations around a
town where people that age would go. Such
as costa and the pub. We also chose our
actors carefully, ensuring they have the
type of personality and style as the actors
they would perform as. However, due to
the lack of money and time we couldn’t
perfect our performances. For example we
couldn’t wait for a time where costa was
quiet without any interruption, due to the
    lack of time.
 We thought a lot about entropy and redundancy before we created
    our media products.
 It appeared risky for us to create a music video fairly entropic, with
no sense of redundancy, due to our band being low budget.
 However, due to our audience being young and individualistic we
thought it would fit well for our products to have a sense of entropy,
because they can then relate to it and find it interesting.
 In our music video, we used a redundant theme about love and
relationships. However, as a entropic factor the video was also based
around irony. The face paint was also a entropic in a sense that it is
unusual to wear the make up around town, however it appears
common for Indie bands to use face paint as a prop.
 My print work was generally redundant as it used the common theme
of faces merged together which is common for Indie bands. However,
the poster had a sense of entropy due to the use of a romantic image
and the colour light green. This isn’t a common theme for Indie
bands but it created a sense of brand identity.
