    • History of Department- The training of engineers for electrochemical processes wasorganized in 1963 in Kirov Polytechnic Institute (now Vyatka StateUniversity).- The science researches about electroplating were started from1967 with collaboration of young lecturers and students of senioryears- The Department of Electrochemical Production Technology wasestablished in 1969 according to order of Ministry of HighEducation (RSFSR) »
    • Major research development of Department- Studies of hydrogen absorption under electroplating. Connectionbetween hydrogen absorption and pH of near-electrode layer wasdetected and investigated. T.M. Ovchinnicova and L.I. Kovyazinawere decorated by medal of ENEA after training to perfection ofelectrolyte for cadmium coating without hydrogen absorption- Effect of pH of near-electrode layer upon stability of sodiumamalgam was investigated. Results permitted to select optimal pHfor electrolysis in production of chlorine and alkali on Kirov-Chepetsk chemical plant.Four Ph.D theses were defended under the guidance ofOvchinnicova T.M.
    • Major research development of Department- The technology of manufacture of cathodes from coppermonochloride was developed and introduced for replacement ofsilver chloride in wateractivated chemical current sources ofspecial purpose.- The research of processes in medium temperature Li-Saccumulator was performed for creation of transport energysource.Five Ph.D theses were defended under the guidance ofKhranilov Yu.P . and Shishkina S.V
    • Department have modern equipment forscientific research: potentiostates “Volta” and“Elins”, impedancemeter «Z-2000» withcomputer control, have pilot galvanic line withmodern venting and rectifier devices.Department carry out scientific research withuse of infrared spectrometer, a differentialscanning calorimeter, derivatograph, belongingto science education center of Vyatka StateUniversity.Department use scanning and atomic forcemicroscopy (of science education center“Nanotechnology”) for study the surfaceproperties of different objects.
    • Department of Electrochemical Production Technology ofVSU cooperate with the Russian Chemical-TechnologicalUniversity, Mendeleev (Moscow), St. Petersburg Institute ofTechnology, University of Kuban (Krasnodar), KazanChemical-Technological University.The active cooperation includes contacts of youngscientists, defense of thesis, participation in scientificconferences held in VSU and in the above universities,exchange of scientific and teaching materials, jointpublications.

    • Directions of scientific workThe general scientific directions ofdepartment were established on basis ofa solution of particular problems in theperformance of contracts anddissertations.19 candidates were trained byDepartment.Current research activity of thedepartment is based largely in line withthe priority areas of engineering andtechnology: «The rational conservancyof nature», «The technologies ofmanufacture of membranes andcatalytic systems»; «The technologiesof processing and utilization oftechnogenic substances and wasteproducts»
    • Directions of scientific workDirection 1Some contracts for Kirov region committee ofnature protection were realized. Subjects were:-the ecology examination of galvanic workshopsin Kirov;- the creation of methods for computation of toxicmetals in solid and liquid wastes and forcomputation of necessary in water consumption.Supervisor of contracts is Shishkina S.V.Two monographs were published (“Themethods for balance computation of heavy metalsin solid and liquid wastes of galvanic workshop”and “The methods for computation of waterconsumption standards in galvanic workshop”.The authors are S.V. Shishkina, V. I. Mamaev, Yu.P. Khranilov.
    • Directions of scientific workDirection 2Creation of the theoretical foundations ofmathematical modeling and computersimulation, including new mathematicalmodels for problems of electrochemistry andelectrochemical technology.Three software material considerationsfor electroplating were developed andregistered in FIPS Russia. Program werepurchased and implemented by allenterprises Kirov having galvanicproduction. The results are also in place atJSC "Electropribor", Cheboksary.On this subject theses are defended:- of Domrachev R.A. “Develop materialbalances electroplating and arrangements toreduce their consumption of materials andenvironmental hazards”;- of Firsova L.P. “Optimization of materialbalance multiprocess galvanic line bycomputer simulation mass flows”.
    • Directions of scientific workDirection 3A series of works commissioned by Kirov-Chepetsk chemical plant areperformed under the direction of S.V. Shishkina. The research is aimed atidentifying and addressing the causes of problems in the technology of productionof chlorine and alkali mercury cell method(“The study of factors affecting sludge onthe bottom of the cell P-20M andrecommendations for reducing it”). Studiesto explore the use of advanced technologiesin production on KCKK are performed (forexample “The study of membranetechnology and methods for cleaning wastewater KChKhK and developrecommendations for their practical use”).
    • Directions of scientific workDirection 4A comprehensive study of fundamental electrochemical properties of ion-exchange membranes in solutions containing multiply-charged ions and complex setof variable composition are performed. Thephenomenon of modification of membranes andemergence of nanostructures with new transport andcatalytic properties are discovered and explored.Membrane technologies for water and wastewatertreatment chemical plants with the return of valuablecomponents in the work cycle are developed.The next Ph.D theses were defended under theguidance of Prof. Shishkina S.V.: “Study ofelectrodialysis of solutions containing heavy metals”(Mihailova I.Yu.); “The electrochemical behavior ofion-exchange membranes in solutions of transitionmetal chlorides” (Pechenkina E.S.).
    • Directions of scientific workDirection 5Technologies for recycling of valuable components in theprocessing of liquid and solid waste electroplating and otherindustries are developed. There are: nickel recovery from spentchemical nickel plating electrolytes; getting of lead chromepigment from spent technological solutions containing hexavalentchromium; obtaining of high purity copper from copper-containingsalt residues.The next Ph.D theses were defended under the guidance of Prof.Khranilov Yu. P.:- “The technology of nickel utilization from waste solutions ofchemical nickel plating and from recovery baths” (Lobanova L.L.);- “The technology for producing of lead chrome pigment usingelectroplating wastes” (Eremeeva T.V.);- “The technology of copper extraction in a compact form fromconcentrated copper salt wastes” (Bobrov M.N.).
    • Directions of scientific workDirection 6Tribogalvanic technology of surfacetreatment of metals are developed to givespecial properties such as corrosion resistance,wear resistance, decorative appearance. Thework manager is Ph.D. Mamaev V.I. Range ofcolors, which can be painted products, isexpanded. Tribogalvanic technologies forcoating of different colors are developed, aswell as methods for rendering conventionalcoatings for precious metals, under the "olddays."
    • The practical implementation of researchresultsThe results of scientific research have been implemented in realproduction and cooperation with enterprises:JSC "Kirov-Chepetsk Chemical Plant";JSC "The appliance", Cheboksary;OJSC "Avitek";JSC "Lepse";JSC "Mayak", etc.Cooperation is possible with enterprises of energy, pharmaceuticals,food processing industries in terms of water treatment and wastewatertreatment using membrane methods; with JSC "Cuprite" in terms of thedevelopment and implementation of technologies for processing anddisposal of wastes containing toxic heavy metals.
