    • Envisioning an Image Commons: Some Desirable Features * Imaging Standards Archival TIFF master files Scaled JPG derivatives * Standard templates for image metadata, descriptive information, and image rights profile * Integrated search and discovery, including subject and keyword access based on commonly-used controlled vocabularies * Minimal impediments to downloading and re-purposing images and information
    • Envisioning an Image Commons: Problems, Questions, Impediments * “Super-directory”? Or stand-alone resource? * Who will pay for building and maintaining project? Who would have management responsibility? * How will project acquire and disseminate content? * Who will actually do the work of content creation? * Who has “gatekeeping” responsibility for content? Technically (compliance with imaging standards) Intellectually (assure accuracy of information) Legally (consistent assessment of rights) * How do we balance the needs of contributors and users?
