  5. 5. HISTORY In 1931 Unilever (A joint venture of England based company Lever Brothers and Netherlands's Unie ) set up its first Indian subsidiary. Hindustan Vanaspati Manufacturing company , followed by Lever Brothers India Ltd.( 1933 ) and United Traders Ltd.( 1935 ), these three companies merged to form HUL in November 1956. 02/05/12 PRESENTATION
  6. 6. Major Mergers : <ul><li>The liberalization of Indian economy started in 1991 . It permitted alliances, acquisitions and mergers. In one of the most visible and talked about events of India’s corporate history, Tata Oil Mills Company (TOMCO) merged with HUL effective from April 1993. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1993 HUL acquired the Kissan business from the UB Group and the Dollops ice-cream business from Cadbury India . </li></ul><ul><li>In 1998 another Tata company Lekme Ltd . sold its brand to HUL. </li></ul>PRESENTATION 02/05/12 HISTORY…

(BBLIL) merged with HUL . </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Ponds (India) Ltd., which had been present in India since 1947 , joined the Unilever fold in 1986 and after that in 1998 PIL merged with HUL . </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>In January 2007 , in a historic step, government decided to award 75% equity in Modern Foods to HUL .
