  3. 3. <ul><li>COLLABORATION PARTNERS </li></ul><ul><li>All Children’s Specialty Physicians , a wholly owned subsidiary of All Children’s Hospital, a 501 (c) (3) not for profit corporation and under the direction of the Medical Director of Pediatric Cardiology, Dr. Gul Dadlani: </li></ul><ul><li> Cardiac Arrhythmia Syndromes Foundation (CAS Foundation) (CASF) a 501 (c) (3) not for profit corporation founded by Jayne Vining, in memory </li></ul><ul><li> and honor of her son Marc who died of a congenital heart defect: </li></ul>

PROGAM # 1 PARTICAPANTS Primary; Economically disadvantaged and/or ethnic minority populations, ages 6 to 25 within ACH’s primary service area; Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota Counties (other counties as funding permits). Secondary (as funding allows) ; Economically disadvantaged and/or ethnic minority adult populations within the counties of; Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota Counties (other counties as funding permits). We will recruit these participants by providing services at organizations that also serve individuals in these demographics, including youth clubs, churches in low-income areas, civic associations, etc……

DISPARITIES IN HEALTHCARE The United States historically had large disparities in health and access to adequate healthcare between races, and current evidence supports the notion that these racially-centered disparities continue to exist and are a significant social health issue.* Demographic trends indicate that the number of Americans who are vulnerable to suffering the effects of heath care disparities will rise over the next half century.* Current data show that some ethnic minorities, as well as low-income families of whatever race or ethnicity, tend to be in poorer health than other Americans.* * The National Healthcare Disparities Report, developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ/HHS)
  6. 6. <ul><li>PROGRAM # 2 - BEGINNING WITH Hillsborough County School District the eighth largest school district in America with 193,500 students and 55,000 students in grades 9 thru 12: </li></ul><ul><li>FUTURE PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS </li></ul><ul><li>Schools within All Children’s 17 county service area consisting of Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, Sumter, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Polk, DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Manatee , Sarasota , Charlotte , Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee: </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>Education </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Risk factors, symptom recognition, life style modification </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Emergency Action Plans </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Reactive preparedness, Chain of Survival </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Heart Screening Services </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Personal & family heart health histories, blood pressure (BP), body mass index (BMI), electrocardiogram (ECG) </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Follow-up Care </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Expedited appointments (to minimize anxiety and/or ineligibility), FREE follow-up care for the uninsured </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Create a Collaborative Research Database </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Advance the literature and create American based science </li></ul></ul>PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
  8. 8. <ul><li>20 children between the ages of 6 & 18 will die today from sudden cardiac arrest caused by a Cardiac Arrhythmia Syndromes (CAS). </li></ul><ul><li>1 out of every 143 children has a Cardiac Arrhythmia Syndromes. </li></ul><ul><li>Cardiac Arrhythmia Syndromes is more common in the United States than all childhood diseases combined . </li></ul><ul><li>The first symptom in over 80% of the cases of sudden cardiac arrest is death . </li></ul><ul><li>70% of the causes of sudden cardiac death by cardiac arrhythmias are detected by heart screening. </li></ul>STATISTICS VIDEO
  9. 9. <ul><li>The African American population has been found to suffer sudden cardiac arrest 3 to 5 times more than all other races. </li></ul><ul><li>Cardiac Arrhythmia Syndromes are genetic and hereditary . Screening one family member could very well save the lives of other family members. </li></ul><ul><li>Once a Cardiac Arrhythmia Syndromes is detected and 1st and 2nd degree family members are tested, an average of nine additional cases are found . </li></ul><ul><li>Once diagnosed, these syndromes are treatable, and individuals with these conditions can have normal life spans and lifestyles. </li></ul>STATISTICS
