  • IS/Telecom/DataCom
    • Our proposed technology is Video Conferencing
    • Video conferencing is the act of teleconferencing where video images are transmitted between parties geographically dispersed around the world
    • The two companies we chose to compare and contrast were Voice Café and Polycom
    • The product we chose from Polycom was the VSX 8000
    • The product we chose from Voice Café was the full motion video software
    • What is VSX 8000?
    • An easy-to-install high performance video conferencing system
    • Connectivity hub for integrated and custom environments
    • People+Content software is included and requires only an IP network connection to show content in a video call
    • Polycom is the video conferencing version of SAP
    • Polycom Strategic Alliances
    • Polycom has teamed industry leaders to get the most out of the hardware and software they produce to provide the highest quality UCC
    • These partners include such giants as:
    • Cisco Systems
    • Nortel Networks
    • Microsoft
    • Avaya
    • What is Full Motion Video?
    • Voice Café is integrated with communication applications to offer conferencing solutions
    • Video software to be added to a voice room for full communication, instruction and training
    • Video software to be added to voice and video hardware to allow for complete video conferencing
    • Polycom VSX 8000
    • High update costs
    • Large upfront payment for equipment that will outdate itself within a few years
    • User is responsible for upkeep of software
    • No monthly payments
    • Ownership of equipment which can be resold at later date
    • Meets all mandatory requirements
    • Software is included with purchase of capital equipment
    Cons Pros
    • Voice Café Full Motion Video
    • No resale value as when lease is expired equipment is returned to company (e.g. Rogers)
    • Software based, therefore leasee is responsible for update of hardware
    • No large upfront capital payment
    • Software based system which is updated on a regular basis
    • Longevity with lease
    Cons Pros
    • Costs
    • $130/month per division plus the costs of hardware for each division
    • Software only
    • $600 USD per division
    • Includes hardware and software
    Full Motion Video VSX 8000
  • Based on the information we have given, what would you recommend?
    • And the winner is
    • Polycom’s VSX 8000
    • From our analysis we find it clear that the best choice for PetPro is the VSX 8000
    • Both products met all mandatory requirements, but we feel that with Polycom we get hardware specific software to get the best out of our purchase
  • From the pivot chart report we can clearly see that Polycom’s VSX 8000 is the stronger product.
    • Why Polycom?
    • Polycom’s product is both hardware and software
    • Voice Café is a video software to get the most out of video hardware you purchase yourself
    • Polycom is the leading provider of Unified Collaborative Communications
    • Polycom’s Strategic Alliances ensure the latest and greatest in UCC hardware and software from end to end
    • Implementation
    • If PetPro were to choose the video conferencing technology we strongly recommend that they work with Polycom Inc. implement this technology
    • We would also recommend that they use Polycom’s VSX 8000 hardware and the supplied software
    • PetPro management will work closely with Nestle representatives, IS/Datacom/Telecom division and Polycom consultants to ensure that PetPro got the most out of their investment
