  1. 1. Why we started using JorumI became more engaged with using Jorum when I was project manager for a JISC project ‘NTU SHARE- Supporting, Harnessing and Advancing Repository Enhancement2’, which was part of the InformationEnvironment Programme. We found that we could harvest records from Jorum into our learning repositorywithin our VLE - Desire2Learn3, so we switched this functionality on. Staff at Nottingham Trent University(NTU) could already retrieve learning and teaching resources directly from MERLOT4and those publishedby colleagues, but gaining access to Jorum increased the amount of retrievable resources via the learningrepository search interface. How Jorum works for usIt appears to be used in two ways to see quality assured learning and teaching resources in a varietyof subject areas, and where possible link to resources. I say wherever possible, our learning repositoryallows us to link to anything retrieved in search from our courses, however, if the link is to a contentpackage it is not possible to do this without downloading it and importing it into the VLE. I have looked atthe Jorum website and I still find it difficult to find guidance on how to use content packages in a VLE (am Imissing something?...(Thanks for the feedback Vicki) ).................................................................................. END.............................................................................................“ We use Jorum to seequality assured learningand teaching resourcesin a variety of subjectareas”VickiMcGarveySenior eLearningDeveloper, Centrefor AcademicDevelopment andQuality, NottinghamTrent UniversityUser StoryOn a journey with JorumIn this story we speak to Vicki McGarvey who first became aware ofJorum about seven years ago when she was a Learning Developmentand Innovation Manager at Staffordshire University. At this time, Vicki was involved in a JISC project called ‘SURF WorkBased Learning’, which developed resources to support work basedlearning. Outputs1from this project were required to be published toJorum and shared as content packages.Jorum Stories Apr 12jorum.ac.uk1. http://www.jisc.ac.uk/whatwedo/programmes/x4l.aspx2. http://www.ntushare.org/3. http://www.desire2learn.com/newsletters/Horizon/Issue16/articles/?id=44. http://www.merlot.org/merlot/index.htm“I have noticedall the resourcesare open nowwhich is great.”We refer to Jorum as a resource in our face-to-face and online training andguidance on sharing learning and teaching resources. I do not often look atthe homepage because I access the resources from the learning repository, but I have noticed all the resources are open now which is great. I also usethe RSS feed to find out what is going on.
