Whether you're totally new to Twitter or you're looking for an easy-to-use primer on getting the most out of Twitter, Paul McFedries book fits the bill. It's smartly written, easy on the eyes, and makes a great reference to have by the computer.
As a Twitter user for over two years, I approached this book with initial skepticism. After all, I pride myself on being somewhat of a geek - what could this book possibly teach me? A lot, it turns out.
This book is very approachable. It assumes that the reader knows nothing about Twitter. The first chapter focuses on setting up your account. Chapter 2 tells you how to make the most out of customizing your Twitter account. Chapter 3 is about sending replies and direct messages and other tricks and tips related to communicating with others on Twitter. Chapter 4 talks about finding and following people, and the protocols involved with replying, retweeting and direct messaging.
Other useful sections include using Twitter on a mobile phone, finding stuff on Twitter, displaying Twitter feeds on your website, and extending Twitter's capabilities.
This book is definitely recommended for someone who is new to Twitter. If you have some experience with Twitter already, it's still worth picking up. If you're VERY experienced with Twitter, then you can probably skip this book.
