    1. Things Ive Learned From Women Whove Dumped Me by Ben Karlin Very Funny Book Amazon Best of the Month, February 2008: New York magazine knew what they were talking about when they said, If youve laughed in the last ten years, Ben Karlin was responsible. The latest project of this former senior editor of The Onion, former executive producer of both The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report, and co-author and co- editor of America (The Book) collects 212 pages of semi-insightful and mostly hilarious life lessons from a lineup of writers and comedians in a book with the best title so far this year, Things Ive Learned from Women Whove Dumped Me. Bens own mom kicks things off with I Think My Son Is a Catch, but read on to enjoy contributions from Andy Richter (Girls Dont Make Passes at Boys with Fat Asses), Stephen Colbert (The Heart Is a Choking Hazard), Jason Nash (Dont Enter a Karaoke Contest Near Smith College; You Will Lose to Lesbians), Dan Savage (I Am a Gay Man), and David Rees (Get Dumped Before It Matters). Filled with High Fidelity-style insight into the inner workings of the modern male mind, this is an anthology for readers of all genders, no matter their relationship status. --Brad Thomas Parsons Our Moment with Ben Ben Karlin is a man who holds a virtual PhD in Modern American Comedy. Karlins career kicked off as the editor of The Onion and he is the former executive producer of the award-winning The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and co-creator and former executive producer of The Colbert Report. He was also a co-author and co-editor of the bestselling America (The Book) and his latest project takes him back to the book world as the editor of the anthology Things Ive Learned From Women Whove Dumped Me, 212 pages of semi-insightful and mostly hilarious life lessons from a lineup of writers and comedians. Amazon.com senior editor Brad Thomas Parsons caught up with Karlin to talk about his new book, the writers strike, the serious job of writing comedy, and what makes him laugh (hint: it isnt

Personal Review: Things Ive Learned From Women Whove Dumped Me by Ben Karlin Reviewed by Andrey Bilko for RebeccasReads (4/09) This book is a collection of 46 essays (or "lessons" as they are called in the book), which deal with the subject of breaking up, or more specifically about getting dumped by a female. All of these stories were written by male writers and comedians like Andy Richter, Dan Savage, Will Forte, Adam Schelesinger, and of course, the infamous Stephen Colbert, who tell us their experiences of getting dumped in a very comical way. The book is very well organized and each "lesson" is a separate contribution from a different writer. Each "lesson" is fairly short and a very quick read, something you can read on the beach (even though there would be so many distractions, you will still be able to understand what is going on). I really enjoyed reading the book. It is often very nice to get away from serious texts and dive into something as entertaining as "Things I've Learned..." While reading, I would continuously find myself giggling, thinking about how true some of these stories are, either from personal experience or friends' stories. Reading the book is like listening to a stand- up comedy, the only difference being that you, the reader, are the stand-up comic, so the delivery may not always be the most effective. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who likes comedy and wants to take a break from watching Comedy Central all day long. I would also suggest this book to those who haven't read anything since college and would like to see whether they are still capable of reading. This text is a great jump-starter! Just kidding, but you understand what I mean. This book is very entertaining and with summer around the corner, it is a perfect text to take on a vacation and just enjoy and giggle. Lots of giggling or maybe even full-blown laughing... Anyways, enjoy it guys! It may bring back many comical memories of your own.
