Sit back down at your home studio piano, and start recording. you could do dozens of standards, just like this, and they would be wildly successful. Give people an MP3 library to pick and choose from, you should do ALL the standards- in the style of this wonderful CD...
I downloaded this CD off iTunes a couple nights ago, as I have recently developed an interest in Mr. Jarrett's work, and wanted to hear his solo work. I sat on a plane last night looking out the window at a western sky at sunset that was about as lovely as I've seen, listening to this album. It was pretty much perfect.
The moron on iTunes who did the review of the album gave it a negative spin. wasn't sophisticated enough for him. Please ignore him, hopefully he's found something in life more constructive to do. If you like piano music; thoughtful, peaceful, introspective playing...you will love this cd. There is nothing wrong with emphasizing a beautiful melody as it is written, nothing wrong with keeping the jazz phrasing minimal, but effective. I have tried to like Bill Evan's solo album "Alone", but i can't do it. he doesn't seem to know where to go with it, and he loses you in the process. This CD... these are 5-6 minute versions of great songs, beautifully arranged and performed perfectly. The music is very understandable, especially for folks, like me, who enjoy jazz stylings but don't worship at its altar of endless, loosely structured, improvisational orgies. If you know anything about solo piano- its the LEFT HAND. listen to what he does with the LEFT HAND. it is wonderful, and it ain't easy either....
