The Beach House: A Novel by Jane Green - Presentation Transcript

    1. The Beach House: A Novel by Jane Green I Loved It! A Fantastic Summer Read (Or Any Season) The New York Times bestseller and ultimate beach read from the author of Second Chance Nan Powell is a free-spirited, sixty-five-year-old widow who’s not above skinny-dipping in her neighbors’ pools when they’re away and who dearly loves her Nantucket home. But when she discovers that the money she thought would last forever is dwindling, she realizes she must make drastic changes to save her beloved house. So Nan takes out an ad: Rooms to rent for the summer in a beautiful old Nantucket home with water views and direct access to the beach.
    2. Slowly people start moving in to the house, filling it with noise, laughter, and with tears. As the house comes alive again, Nan finds her family and friends expanding. Her son comes home for the summer, and then an unexpected visitor turns all their lives upside down. As she did so masterfully in her New York Times bestseller Second Chance, Jane Green once again proves herself one of the preeminent writers of contemporary women’s fiction. Personal Review: The Beach House: A Novel by Jane Green My Husband Ran Off with the Nanny and God Do I Miss Her Author jane Green hits a home-run in The Beach House. The novel is ideal for the kind of reader who adores romantic intrigue; complex but exciting interwoven stories that deal with basic human flaws and love and motives and sadness -- truly -- Jane Green covers it all and manages to spin the stories and interweave them in such a way that it is one of those books that you don't want to put down and you don't want to end. If you are a reader who wants action such as violence or a "big movie screen"story line, this is not that kind of book. But to me, (as an author myself of a recently published novel in the same genre) I take my hat off to the author because we can really feel each of the character's thoughts and emotions as they go through divorce or betrayal or whatever it is AND it is fascinating how she brings it all together in one house in Nantucket where a woman of courage and character unwittingly gathers tenants for room rentals that shape and change each other's lives in ways that feel compelling and real. I give the book a ten. Buy it for sure!!!
