Rome Sweet Home: Our Journey to
Catholicism by Kimberly Hahn
Great Book!
The well-known and very popular Catholic couple, Scott and Kimberly
Hahn, have been constantly travelling and speaking all over North America
for the last few years about their conversion to the Catholic Church. Now
these two outstanding Catholic apologists tell in their own words about the
incredible spiritual journey that led them to embrace Catholicism. Scott
Hahn was a Presbyterian minister, the top student in his seminary class, a
brilliant Scripture scholar, and militantly anti-Catholic ... until he reluctantly
began to discover that his enemy had all the right answers. Kimberly, also
a top-notch theology student in the seminary, is the daughter of a well-
known Protestant minister, and went through a tremendous dark night of
the soul after Scott converted to Catholicism. Their conversion story and
love for the Church has captured the hearts and minds of thousands of
lukewarm Catholics and brought them back into an active participation in
the Church. They have also influenced countless conversions to
Catholicism among their friends and others who have heard their powerful
testimony. Written with simplicity, charity, grace and wit, the Hahns deep
love and knowledge of Christ and of Scripture is evident and contagious
throughout their story. Their love of truth and of neighbor is equally
evident, and their theological focus on the great importance of the family,
both biological and spiritual, will be a source of inspiration for all readers.
Personal Review: Rome Sweet Home: Our Journey to
Catholicism by Kimberly Hahn
In very conversational language, both Scott Hahn and his wife Kimberly
detail their long and sometimes agonizing journey into the Catholic Church.
Their stories are interspersed with deep insights and well-placed morsels
of humor. Scott has always been a very committed young man--both to his
wife and his faith. As a Presbyterian seminarian and minister, he even
tried to save his Catholic friends from the certain error of their ways. As
the Hahns tell their story, you can see the hand of God gently guiding
them--using their own zeal to lead them ever so gradually home to Rome.
Scott's wit shows through when Kimberly explains to him how the Catholic
Church was right on birth control. "Even a blind pig can find a truffle," he
quips.
But as he discovers more and more areas in which the Catholics "got it
right," he is at first surprised, then amused, and finally horrified of the
implications for himself and his family. Here his tremendous integrity
shows strong. Scott's prayer is that he will do the Lord's will--no matter
what. With incredible courage, he faces the loss of his career in the
Presbyterian church, loss of friends, and maybe damaging his relationship
with his wife. But Kimberly's love for Scott carries her through as she
allows him to follow his conscience in spite of the pain it causes her. And
Scott's patience allows Kimberly to discover the same truths in her own
time.
Rome Sweet Home is as much a love story as one of conversion. Evident
throughout the book is the sacrificial love Scott and Kimberly have for each
other--and the burning love they both have for God.
MUST READING for anyone considering the Catholic Church--and for
lukewarm believers wanting to rekindle their faith!
