Friday the 13th (Extended Killer Cut and Theatrical Cut) (Amazon Digital Bundle + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray] starring Derek Mears, Jared Padalecki, Arlen Escarpeta, Danielle Panabaker, Ben Feldman - Presentation Transcript

    1. Friday the 13th (Extended Killer Cut and Theatrical Cut) (Amazon Digital Bundle + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray] starring Derek Mears, Jared Padalecki, Arlen Escarpeta, Danielle Panabaker, Ben Feldman A Nice Relaunch Of The Franchise! If you thought a bigger budget and an A-list producer (Michael Bay) would go to Jasons head, well, forget it. The indestructible villain of so many bottom-of-the-barrel shockers isnt about to change his shtick, and the 2009 Friday the 13th proves it. This, the umpteenth sequel (nope, its not a remake of the origin story) to the original 1980 movie, gives us a clever prologue that manages to fit an entire Jason Voorhees killing spree in a brisk and bloody 20 minutes. Jumping ahead six weeks, the film introduces
    2. a carload of clueless teens headed for a weekend at a lakeside cabin, plus a lone motorcyclist (Jared Padalecki) in search of his missing sister (Amanda Righetti). When the lakeside happens to refer to Crystal Lake, of course, there can be only one outcome. Cue the hockey mask, and pass the machete. Bay and director Marcus Nispel, who collaborated on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, are surprisingly indifferent to changing up the formula this time, although theres more care taken in building up a few characters, and for once the comic relief (mostly supplied by Aaron Yoo and Arlen Escarpeta) is pretty funny. You might even regret the slaughter of a couple of these young folk, which is an unusual feeling in Friday-watching. The films Jason is quite the athletic fellow, and hes assembled an elaborate underground corpse-hiding lair in the vicinity of Crystal Lake. How hes been able to live down there for 30 years (if the films own timeline is to be believed) and had enough unwitting campers pass by to keep himself entertained is anybodys guess. But if they keep coming, hell keep slashing. --Robert Horton Also on the disc The Blu-ray disc includes both the extended Killer Cut (which is 106 minutes compared to 97) and the theatrical cut, though it defaults to play the Killer Cut; if you want the theatrical cut, you have to select it on the special-features menu. Its hard to imagine choosing to watch the theatrical cut, however. In addition to some more of Amanda Righetti and of Jason, the extra nine minutes is mostly more gore in the gory scenes and more sex in the sexy scenes. If youre squeamish you might not want those things, but if youre that squeamish you probably dont want to watch Friday the 13th in the first place, right? The longer cut will give you more of the stuff that you probably watch this movie for. But the theatrical cut is on the disc if you want it, as well as a couple of 11-minute featurettes on the new movie and the franchise, three deleted scenes (a different version of Jason getting his mask, the police response to the phone call, and a revised climax), and The 7 Best Kills, which provides behind-the-scenes info on key deaths. A commentary track, which combines movie and franchise trivia with picture-in-picture footage of crew members discussing the film, is pretty sporadic (it tends to appear more frequently on the important scenes) and repeats some of the info in other features (which is pretty common). Theres also a second disc with a Digital Copy of the film, and additional features on BD-Live. --David Horiuchi Personal Review: Friday the 13th (Extended Killer Cut and Theatrical Cut) (Amazon Digital Bundle + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray] starring Derek Mears, Jared Padalecki, Arlen Escarpeta, Danielle Panabaker, Ben Feldman On June 1980, a manical woman murdered a dozen camp counslers as her own son named Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears) witnessed the death of his mother and swears to avenge her over the years. Now in the present day a man named Clay Miller (Jared Padaleck) searches for his sister Whitney (Amanda Righetti) who was missing for nearly a month, however
    3. a group of horney sex and booze crazed young adults (Travis Van Winkle, Danielle Panabaker, Aaron Yoo, Ryan Hansan, Arlen Escarpeta, and Juliana Guill) are having a weekend of fun at a secluded vacation house nearby Camp Crystal Lake. But their ideal dream vacation turns into a weekend of bloody horror once the disfigured maniac Jason who later dons a hockey-mask begins to kill them one by one but who will survive and will Clay find Whitney? An exciting and thrilling reboot of the popular yet critically bashed Friday The 13th series as it brings it back to it's roots. Director Marcus Naspiel who directed the decent "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake in 2003 and producers Sean S. Cunningham with Michael Bay brings the series on it's feet again in a whole different way, it's not really a remake in the traditional sense but a semi-remake/semi-sequel remix combine that pays tribute to the first four movies of the series including using references to them. I really like the concept of having the first four movies of the F13 series as the basis for the film including a brief origin of Jason on how he became the killer he is unlike what Rob Zombie's attempt at "Halloween" was but making Jason a bit faster and meaner just like his human non-zombie counterpart in parts 2 3 and Final Chapter. The film does have a playful sense of self-referential humor about sex, drugs and alcohol this side of "Scream" and has some good gory murders shown, it's nice to see the series gets back on track and can't wait for the sequel. This Blu-Ray offers brilliant picture and sound quality that skyrockets to the roof on high definition. The Extras are quite nice with both an extended killer cut and theatrical cut, additional scenes, The 7 best kills, two featurettes and PIP Trivia-track including BD-Live exlusive extras.
