I'm one of those poor souls who had the 'new math' sprung on them in 4th
grade (when it was decided we all had to learn Base 2 and get to the
Moon) and from then on I was TOTALLY out of the loop in math.
Something didn't 'click' and no teacher caught it. I was in the group that a
news story said "was ruined for math by the New Math".
Unfortunately, my Master's degree includes managerial accounting. I had
to drop that class after one session. Nothing made sense.
This book to the rescue! As an instructor (not in acctng!), I can tell you it is
set up very well. Each concept is taught in little 'bites' and I am able to
understand each as I go. I did see a review, here, that said the book was
a piece of junk. Even though I have a VERY good instructor in this class, I
don't think that's why the book seems so good. As I work in it during the
week, it stands on its own very well.
I especially appreciate the examples and explanations. We follow a very
down-to-earth company through the processes to run a business and keep
the books. Nice.
Although financial accounting is different from the managerial I must take, I
now have the 'basics'. The authors took a LOT of extra time to make it
work.
Our instructor supplies the PPT presentations (provided with the
instructor's copy, I assume) for our use, and they are great to print and
take notes on. They are also very helpful if you can use your notes during
the exams.
