Bos Lasting Lessons: The Legendary
Coach Teaches the Timeless
Fundamentals of Leadership by John
U. Bacon
Lasting Impressions
During his record-setting tenure as coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Bo
won thirteen Big Ten titles and finished as the winningest football coach in
the schools storied history. But if you asked him, his most important
achievement was having a remarkably positive impact on the hundreds of
athletes he coached. In these pages, youll hear Bos distinctive voice as he
shares the principles he applied on the football field and in the locker room
to create a football dynasty, and hell tell you how you can apply his
insights to any leadership role. His words will educate, motivate, and
inspire-just as the man himself did every day.
Personal Review: Bos Lasting Lessons: The Legendary Coach
Teaches the Timeless Fundamentals of Leadership by John U.
Bacon
Very enjoyable read. Especially relevant for someone nearing a milestone
in their career. Many people can benefit from Bo's word or at least enjoy
his anecdotes.
I had to hold back some tears near the end. (Especially about what Kenny
Root wrote in the Reflections chapter). What a great man. My favorite line
is in the introduction, "Bo insulted you to your face... and praised you
behind your back." He seemed to be a on-of-a-kind, which I'm sure he'd
say is a sad thing in this day and age.
I have grown up a big Cal Golden Bears fan (suffering through many,
many terrible years), then attended grad school in the height of Pete
Carroll's career at USC. And although still a Pac-10 fan, I now have a
greater sense of the foundation and history that built Michigan's football
program than even my own alma mater.
