    • The man, who moved the Earth, held the Sun and the heavens
    • BIOGRAPHY
      • Nicolaus Copernicus is an all-round Renaissance man –an astronomer , a mathematician, a doctor and a clergymen.
    • Copernicus was born in the city of Torun on 19th February 1473. He was the youngest of four children in a wealthy family . Unfortunately, when he was ten, his father died.
      • From 1491 to 1495 Copernicus studied astronomy and philosophy at the University of Krakow.

    • Later he undertook an astronomy course in Bologna, Italy. He accomplished his education in Padua where he studied medicine and canonic law.
      • Copernicus is the first scientist, who presented
      The Heliocentric system.
      • According to his theory the Sun is in the centre of the Universe, and the other planets are circling in orbits around it.

    • Copernicus devoted two chapters in his famous book to trigonometry, which was a still unknown science in the 16 th century.
    • The Catholic Church condemned and banned De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium .   G. Bruno, J. K epler and Galileo were among the scientific supporters and defenders of the theory . 
    • The great scientist is said to have constructed the water supply installations in Formbork and other Prussian towns.
      • Т he monument of Copernicus in Torun. The granite postament bears the inscription "Torunets Nicolaus Copernicus, moved the earth, held the Sun and the heavens“.
    • SOMETHING INTERESTING about COPERNICUS AND. . .
      • People used to eat dark bread at that time. When someone dropped his piece on the ground he wouldn’t be able to see the grime stuck to it. Copernicus used a thin layer of butter over the bread as a means to stop the spreading disease.
    • The University of Torun was founded in 1945.It is named after Nicolaus Copernicus
