Port Chart

Parts List
Use HyDraw commands to create this circuit drawing.

®

Circuit Drawing

To create the circuit drawing:

• Insert and orient all the symbols in the drawing.

• Insert an envelope.

• Insert ports on the envelope and create connections.

• Insert and connect components outside the envelope.

• Assign model codes to all the symbols.

• Insert page outline and title block.

• Create Parts List, Port Chart, and Net List.

HyDraw

Start HyDraw. It will open a new drawing.

®

Demo Library

Select the Demo library from the HyDraw Library Explorer. This will now be the default
library for this drawing.
The Demo library is provided with the evaluation version of HyDraw, it has a limited
number of symbols and some component data has been entered.

Inserting Symbols

Inserting Symbols

Insert the first component into the drawing. For example, component 5, which is a
direction control valve.
Traverse the menu and click the Spring Centered tree item.

The symbol library of Spring Centered, Double Solenoid valves is displayed.
Select the symbol.

Drag and drop the symbol to an appropriate location on your drawing page.

Zoom into the drawing area and see that the symbol is inserted with an auto-assigned
component ID in a balloon next to it.

To change the component ID, which is displayed in the balloon, double click the number
and change it to 5.

The Direction Control Valve symbol is inserted with a lot of text attributes.
To view these attributes, select the Direction Control Valve symbol and click the Edit
Properties button. The HyDraw Property Manager will display.

View all the attributes in the HyDraw Property Manager.
When we insert a symbol without selecting its model code, the symbol is inserted with
blank model code values.

Inserting Symbols

To insert the Check Valve symbol into the drawing, traverse through the menu and select
the Check (Valve) tree item.

Drag and drop the Check Valve symbol into your drawing.
Note that the Check Valve was automatically assigned a component ID of “6”.
HyDraw increments the last component ID automatically.

Locate the Relief Valve symbol.

Drag and drop the symbol into the drawing.

Notice, the Relief Valve symbol is not in the required orientation.
To rotate the symbol, select its Rotate Shape pivot point and drag such that the symbol is
rotated by 180 degrees.

The symbol is rotated but the text remains vertical.

Inserting Symbols

Insert component 8, Needle Valve – Screw-in Cartridge into the drawing by searching for
the NV1220A0N model code in the component database.
Enter the first few letters of the Model Code search options and click the Search for Model
Code button.

The search yields a list of model codes starting with NV.
Select NV1220A0N
The symbol of the Needle valve displays in the Explorer.

Inserting Symbols

Drag and drop the Needle Valve into your drawing.

Inserting Symbols

Select the Needle Valve and click the Edit Properties button.

Inserting Symbols

The HyDraw Property Manager displays the properties of the Needle Valve inserted into
the drawing.
Notice, all the properties of the selected model code are inserted into the drawing with the
component.

To copy component 7 to a different location in the drawing, right click the symbol and
select copy.

Inserting Symbols

Paste the symbol to the required location in your drawing.
Rotate the symbol to its required orientation.
Change the component ID to 4.

Inserting Envelope

Inserting Envelope

Use the Envelope button to draw an envelope around the inserted symbols.

Inserting Envelope

The envelope is inserted in the drawing. It is also allocated a default component ID.
Change the component ID to 3.
Once the envelope is inserted, you can move its location by selecting and dragging it or
by stretching one of its sides.

®

Creating Connections

®


To connect the P port of component 3, with external port P1,
Click the Pressure line icon on the HyDraw menu bar.

®


Click port P of component 5, then drag the envelope until it snaps to the envelope line.

®


On releasing the mouse, the Port icon is inserted automatically on the envelope line and
the Pressure Line connection is created.
Notice, the Red connection square changes to a black dot on port P of component 5.
This change in color indicates that the connector is connected properly to the port.

®


When the port is inserted, it is inserted with its name as “?” by default.
Double click “?” to change it.
The port is inserted with its attributes as blank.
Later, we will see how to fill these attributes automatically from the HyDraw Library.

®


Pivot Point is designated by a green dot.

Move segments of the connection by dragging its pivot point to its new position.

®


The External Port inserted on the envelope line remains attached to the envelope line.
When you drag the port to move it, it will only move along the envelope line.

®


Insert the next connection.
Connect port 1 of component 4 to the
Pressure line. Click the Pressure line icon
on the HyDraw toolbar.

Click near port 1 of component 4, drag
the other end of the line to the Pressure
line. The cursor snaps to the Pressure
line.
When you release the mouse, you will
notice that the kink in the connection
automatically disappears when the
connection line is drawn.

®


Connect port 2 of component 7 to port A
of component 5.

Then, select component 5 and drag it
such that the connection becomes
vertical.
Or
Use left or right keys on the keyboard to
move the object. Use the Shift key to
make finer movements.

The cursor shape changes in the
Connection Drawing mode.

Click the Pointer tool on the Visio toolbar
to return to the Normal command mode.

®


To move the component ID balloon,
select the component and drag the
yellow pivot point to the desired location.

Note
If you do not see the yellow pivot point
on selecting the component, click the
Pointer tool and select the component
again.

®


Complete the other connections in the drawing using the Pressure Line connection type.

®


Change the Connection line type to Pilot by clicking the Pilot button, which is violet in
color.
Connect all the Pilot lines.

®


Change the Connection line type to Tank by clicking the Tank button, which is blue in color.
Connect all the Tank lines.
Jumpers are drawn automatically when two connection lines cross each other.

®

Completing Connections

®


Let us now complete the rest of the circuit.
Insert the symbol of the Tank from the Library menu.
Notice, the inserted Tank symbol has a balloon and a component ID allocated to it.
Ensure that these are not included in the Parts List.

®


Select the Tank symbol, and click the Edit Properties icon.
The HyDraw Property Manager displays.
Uncheck the Include in Parts List check box.
The balloon and component ID disappears from the Tank symbol.

®


Insert the rest of the components and create the appropriate connections to complete the
circuit diagram.

®


In the completed circuit diagram, notice the External Port symbol.
Replace the Plug symbol by Plugged Plug Port symbol.

®


Open the Library Explorer, and click on the External Port Library tab.
Select the plug to be replaced and check the Replace symbol check box.
Drag and drop the Plugged Port symbol over the existing port symbol in the drawing.
The symbol of the plug is replaced by a Plugged Port symbol.

®


Now, assign model codes to all the inserted symbols.
Close HyDraw Library Explorer and open HyDraw Property Manager.
This allows you to maximize the drawing space.

®

Fetch Button

Let us start with the Check Valve, component 6.
To find and include the model code of the check valve, select the Check Valve and
click the Fetch button.

The Fetch from Library dialog box
displays when the Fetch button is
clicked in the HyDraw Property
Manager.

To refine the search, select SUN
Hydraulics from the list of
manufacturers and click the Search
button again.
All SUN valves are displayed.

®


Click the Search button.
All the Model Codes associated with
this Check valve are displayed.

You can also enter the full or partial
Model code to search.
Select the Model code and click OK.

®


When you select the Model Code and click OK, the model code is transferred into the
selected symbol in the drawing.

®


Let us now find the model code of the Direction Control valve using the design
requirements.
Since the valves require a minimum flow of 8 gpm and 3000 psi pressure, enter these as
design requirements.
This requirement is saved with the component.

®


If the circuit designer wants to attach a special note to this valve, then you click the
Note icon and write a text note, which is saved with the component on clicking OK.

®


The Fetch from Library dialog box displays on clicking Search in the HyDraw Property
Manager.
Notice, the design requirement values are pre-entered in the dialog box.
Click the Search button to find components, which meet this design criteria.

®


Select the required model and click OK to transfer the values to the symbol in your
drawing.
The model data is attached to the component.

®


Let us now attach an accessory, a spare seal kit to this Direction Control Valve.
Select the Direction Control Valve and click Fetch in the Accessories section.
The Fetch Accessories from Library dialog box displays.
Select Seal Kit as the component type.

®


Select the Seal Kit you want to attach, then click Add.
You can add multiple accessories to any component.
Click OK to add the accessory to the selected component.

®


The selected accessory is added to the Direction Control Valve.
You can expand the accessory data to view the complete model data of the accessory.
Change the item ID to 5A.

®


For the manifold block represented by the envelope line, there are no model codes in the
library.
Model Code, Description, and Manufacturer can be entered in the HyDraw Property
Manager and saved with the symbol.

®


To assign properties to the external ports, select the port and click the Fetch button in the
HyDraw Property Manager.
The Fetch Port from Library dialog box displays.
Select the port type and port size, then click OK to transfer the model data to the port
symbol in the drawing.

®


The creation of a circuit drawing and allocation of model data of all components in the
circuit is now complete.
On the System tab of the HyDraw Property Manager, you can see all the components and
ports.
You can also assign accessories to the system in the Accessories section.

Drawing Page Setup

Drawing Page Setup

Let us now insert the drawing border and the title block into the drawing.
Use the Shapes button on the Visio menu and select the appropriate Title Blocks*
menu item. (*Title Block stencils only available in Microsoft Visio Professional 2007)

Title Block shapes are displayed.
Drag one of the page outlines into your drawing.

The page outline automatically takes the shape of the page.
Move the circuit drawing by selecting the entire drawing.
Move it such that components do not cross the page outline.

Drag and drop the title block into the drawing.
It automatically snaps to a corner of the drawing.

In the next steps, let us insert the Parts List and Port Chart into the drawing.
To be able to insert these charts, we need to either change the sheet size or
insert these charts on a fresh page.

Let us change the sheet size to A3 to get a larger drawing area.
Click the Page Setup option on the Visio File menu.
Set the page size to A3 and its orientation as Horizontal.

We now have a larger page.
There is enough space to insert the Parts List and the Port Chart.

Select the Parts List command from the HyDraw toolbar.

®


You can use all the default settings in the
Create Parts List dialog box, click Next.

Click Insert to Drawing to insert the
Parts List into the drawing.

®


Select a window area where you want to insert the Parts List.

®


The Parts List chart is inserted into the drawing.

®


You can move the yellow pivot points to adjust the width of the columns,
such that they fit into the available space.

®


The complete chart can be dragged to a new area of the drawing.

®


The drawing and the chart can be moved, such that they fit the paper size.

®

Let us now insert the Port List into the drawing.
Select Create Ports List from the HyDraw toolbar.
Use default selections in the Create Ports List
dialog box, click Next.

Click the Insert button to insert
the Ports List into the drawing.

The Ports List is now inserted into the drawing.

Inserting Net List

®

Inserting Net List

We will create a NET list of the connections inside the manifold within the envelope.
This NET list can then be used by VEST downstream applications like MDTools Manifold
Design software and Manifold Autorouter.

Inserting Net List

Select the Create Net List command button from the HyDraw toolbar.

Inserting Net List

Use the Select Symbols and Connections button to select symbols and connections inside
the envelope by selecting a rectangular area.

®

A Net list is created.

Inserting Net List

Click a net line item. The net will be highlighted in the drawing.
Make sure that all the connections in your circuit are correct and complete.
Click OK to save the Net List to your drawing.
