PRLog.Org - Global Press Release Distribution Salma Hayek Sends Out 200 “Pillowcasegrams” for Obama Inauguration By Lucas Watzenrode Dated: Jan 12, 2009 One of Hollywood’s most dazzling leading ladies, Hayek will be seen next in a three-episode arc of the Golden Globe-winning “30 Rock” sitcom. NEW YORK, NY – What’s the best way to celebrate the inauguration of America’s first African-American president? According to acclaimed actress Salma Hayek, it’s by sending out 200 specially-designed commemorative “Pillowcasegrams” celebrating the 2008 election of Barack Obama. “It’s something decorative but useful,” says the world’s most famous Mexican-American actress. “And a pillowcase is definitely a memento that’s thought-provoking.” The 100% cotton fabric pillowcase -- Hayek is sending them to close friends such as Prince, Edward Norton, Josh Lucas, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem -- has the words quot;Democratquot; scattered over the entire body of the pillowcase. The cuff of the pillowcase, which is on the left side of the pillowcase, is blue. The band between the cuff and the pillowcase depicts the American flag. Hayek is dispatching her 200 “Pillowcasegrams” in beautiful gift boxes with her own personalized telegram message enclosed. The country's first African-American president will take over at a time when the nation is facing enormous challenges, from the recession to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, says Hayek, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally born in Mexico. One of Hollywood’s most dazzling leading ladies, Hayek will be seen next in a three-episode arc of the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning “30 Rock” sitcom, starring as the nurse of character Jack Donaghy’s mother -- who he ends up romancing. “30 Rock” also stars Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracey Morgan, Jane Krakowski Jack McBrayer, Scott Adsit and Judah Friedlander. Previous guest stars have included Oprah Winfrey and Jennifer Aniston. The special pillowcases are made by hand by a small firm in North East, Pennsylvania. Hayek is the first Mexican national to be nominated for a Academy Award for Best Actress. She is one of the most prominent Mexican figures in Hollywood, since the legendary Dolores del Rio. She is also, after Fernanda Montenegro, the second of three Latin American actresses to achieve a Best Actress Oscar nomination. In July 2007, The Hollywood Reporter ranked Hayek fourth in their inaugural Latino Power 50, a list of the most powerful members of the Hollywood Latino community. That same month, a poll found Hayek to be the quot;sexiest celebrityquot; out of a field of 3,000 celebrities (male and female); according to the poll, quot;65 percent of the U.S. population would use the term 'sexy' to describe herquot;. Hayek adapted the series for American television with Ben Silverman, who acquired the rights and scripts from the Colombian telenovela “Yo Soy Betty La Fea” in 2001. Originally intended as a half hour sitcom for NBC in 2004, the project would later be picked up by ABC for the 2006–2007 season with Silvio Horta also producing.
