  • Everyone is using social media... But what tools are right for you and your organization?
  • All the Social Media.
  • This is what many people think Twitter is all about…
  • We don’t need to know every single detail of each other’s lives…
  • But here are some of the ways Twitter is useful - When all other media is shut down, you can tweet from Arab Spring or inside Iran…
  • Learn about road closures… or construction sites.
  • Have a Twitter contest with prizes and engage with your followers!
  • Ask questions. You will get a response.
  • Share photos on Twitter from campus events, student organizations, art openings, sporting events, Homecoming, Commencement, etc. Everyone loves photos. They can capture the moment and many times, speak louder than words.
  • Build your relationships. When you engage with your audience, you create relationships that can lead to more followers and more people paying attention to what you have to say.
  • This is the UNH Facebook page.
  • As it currently stands, your timeline image header is 851 x 315 pixels, The profile photo is 180 x 180 pixels, the tabs are 111 x 74, most photos in posts are 404 x 404…
  • Ask questions. Fill in the blanks, trivia questions, etc.
  • Highlight any Facebook post to draw more attention to it and expand it’s size to across both columns…
  • We simply asked people to share this photo… so far, 110 shares. 123 likes…
  • Just ask your followers to like a photo. You’re not asking for much! We reached almost 10,000 people with this photo. 629 likes, 21 shares.
  • If you’re an admin, click the Show button in the Admin Panel.
  • The Admin Panel…Notifications, New Likes, Insights, and Messages. Click See All under Insights to find reports and metrics on all your Facebook posts.
  • Merchant Dashboard which displays venue stats – total checkins, visitors, social reach (Did they send their check-in to Facebook or Twitter?) What time they checked in, how many are repeat visitors, etc…
  • Here is a recent Check-in special that UNH created for Commencement 2012.
  • These are the actual stats for our checkin special…
  • We had 68 people unlock our checkin special and get a chance to win 1 of 5 UNH Alumni t-shirts… which we randomly selected.
  • Unprovoked, this recent UNH graduate took a photo of the t-shirt he won and sent this via Twitter to his followers, which we UNH retweeted.
  • Are you familiar with the social media index page?

  • Learning takes time.There is no “right” social media strategy…You will find a lot of information (success stories, examples, opinions) onhow effective the different networks are and there you can learn thebasics. In the end, you have to figure it out for yourself and learn by doing(trial and error), and that will take time.Eventually you will understand which networks agree best with your lineof thinking, which users react positively to different types of content, andwhere to find the people you are really looking for.It takes a decent amount of time to understand how the networks function,interact, and how your business can best build a following.
