  • 11P H I L O S O P H YUNLIMITED FREEDOM BEGINS WITH YOUR TR AVEL PLANS.– Cruise duration from seven days; can be individuallyextended with other cruises.– Numerous combination possibilities – even beyonda specific region.– For many routes, there are several dates.– 123 different ports in total.– Optimally accessible cruise departure and arrivalpoints.– Small, less well-known ports away from busierdestinations.– Attractive combination bonus for two or morecombined cruises.Advantages of the New Route Concept:MaltaMonte CarloBarcelona4353 Route numberOrigin and destination portsFour regions – 26 routes – 123 ports – hundredsof extraordinar y days. The route concept for theEUROPA 2 provides you with maximum freedom foryour travel plans. The routes are distinguished bya shorter cruise duration. For example, the majorityof cruises in the Mediterraneanlast for a period of seven days. These individual cruises canalso be combined for a longerholiday. You can either explore aspecific region in more detail orextend your cruise and discovermore fantastic destinations. However you choose to com-bine your trips – for example, from Barcelona to Monte Carlo,on to Malta, and back againto the city of Gaudi – you willhardly call at any of the ports twice. Both origin anddestination ports are always easily accessible. Andeven when selecting the time of your holiday, you canbe ver y flexible. In the western Mediterranean, for ex-ample, you have up to four different cruise dates perroute to choose from. So no matter where your per-sonal break takes you, you will always have maximumvariety. On all our cruises, our particular destinationsare the smaller ports that are not so well known – oneswhich other cruise ships often have to turn about. Dueto the small size of the ship, the EUROPA 2 can alsoreach places that lie off the beaten track and beyondthe usual tourist itinerary. Andour Zodiacs, robust motorisedrubber boats, will take you tothe most beautiful, secludedbeaches. Thanks to longer lay times, itis possible to explore manyports, often in great detail, well into the evening or evenovernight. The EUROPA 2 offers so manypossibilities for discovering theworld that being away longer is completely worthwhile. In two ways: not only will you have some unforgettablememories, but you will also benefit from our combin-ation bonus by combining two cruises or more. • 12THE NEW WAY TO ENJOY RELAXED LUXURY.0101 The IMPERATOR The most comfortable passenger shipin the world of its time.02 An Exclusive Hideaway at Sea Generous amounts ofspace and individual leisure activities are key features of theEUROPA 2.P H I L O S O P H Y* According to Berlitz Cruise Guide 2012.To be ahead of others means having to reinventoneself over and over again. This applied to us alreadymore than 120 years ago, when Albert Ballin organisedthe first cruise. Since then, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises haveinfluenced the culture of luxur y voyages at sea morethan any other provider. One milestone of our successstor y is the proud IMPERATOR from 1913. Furnishedwith a marble swimming pool, a cinema and a 5-starRitz Carlton restaurant, it was the largest and mostcomfor table passenger ship in the world of its time. The EUROPA 2 will also be built in St. Nazaire for themost exclusive standards. Just like its sister ship, theEUROPA, which has been named a 5-star plus cruiseship* twelve times in a row since its commissioning, theEUROPA 2 represents perfect service and the highestculinar y standards. We have reinterpreted these goodqualities and focused entirely on the requirements ofour international guests. Exactly 100 years since themaiden voyage of our IMPERATOR, the EUROPA 2 willbe put to sea for the first time in May 2013. And thusa new chapter in the success stor y of Hapag-LloydCruises will begin.
  • 13P H I L O S O P H Y02The design concept of the EUROPA 2 follows the latesttrends. It is a successful blend of casually elegantambience and state-of-the-ar t technology. Life onboard sets its own standards: more lifestyle and lesscruise tradition create a rela xed atmosphere. It isstriking just how much space each individual passengerwill have – hardly no other ship offers more room perguest than the EUROPA 2.You also have a choice between the many restaurantson board. Haute cuisine in the Restaurant Weltmeereor rather Asian flavours in the Restaurant Elements. These are just some of the decisions you will haveto make on a daily basis. In addition, you can dinewhere, when, how and with whom you like. Even theenter tainment range is varied – dif ferent programmetimes allow you to enjoy rela xed evenings on boardever y night.Particularly when it comes to wellness, the EUROPA 2flies the flag: the OCEAN SPA provides spacious roomsand offers an exclusive and varied range of treatments. For our little sailors, there is professional and variedchildcare for those as young as two years old. Excitingfor the children – and very relaxing for the parents.
  • THE SHIPS OFHAPAG-LLOYD CRUISESARE LIKE MYSECOND HOME.Arnel Compendio,SailorP H I L O S O P H Y0304Behind ever y special ship is a great crew. On theEUROPA 2, the crew consists of more than 370 employ-ees who work hand in hand and only have one aimin mind: to ensure that you have a dreamlike holiday. They have mastered the art of fulfilling the needs ofour German and international guests – discretely andwith meticulous attention to detail. The motivated andsensitive crew help to provide a relaxing atmosphereon board.First and foremost, at the top of the bridge, is Cap-tain Friedrich-Jan Akkermann. The popular captainof the EUROPA will greet the new ship in St. Nazairein spring 2013 and take over the command of theEUROPA 2, bringing with him more than 30 yearsof experience. He will be accompanied by a highlymotivated crew – together they will ensure that eachcruise is an unforgettable experience and guarantee, right from the beginning, that the EUROPA 2 fulfils thequality promise of the EUROPA brand.PASSIONATELY ON BOARD TO SERVE YOU.14
  • The ser vice on the EUROPA 2 is pleasantly attentiveand the crew gets to know the guests personally with-in a ver y short space of time. This is no wonder, be-cause the ratio of crew to guests on board the newestship in our fleet is outstanding. When it comes to your well-being, the hotel directorJohann Schrempf is a particular specialist. All threadsof the ship’s excellent ser vice come together in thisAustrian – from the friendly perfection in your suiteto the enjoyable gastronomic experiences. Your re-quests are his compass through the world. As anexperienced hotel manager on board our expeditionship, the HANSEATIC, and the sister ship EUROPA, he– together with his young team, which was trained inGermany – helps to create the new and unique charmof the EUROPA 2, which easily makes guests from allover the world feel completely comfortable on board.P H I L O S O P H Y050603 Captain Friedrich-Jan Akkermann This captaindiscovered his love of the sea at a very early age.04 Technical Perfection With a great deal of passion, ourteam provides a safe journey.05 Hotel Director Johann Schrempf Born in Upper Styria(Austria), he is an experienced behind-the-scenes organiser.06 Perfect Service A young, motivated crew caters for thefulfilment of all your requests.15
  • 16ENVIRONMENTALISM HAS A PERMANENT PLACE ON BOARD.07Environmentalism plays a large role on board allHapag-Lloyd Cruises ships. The entire fleet is fittedwith modern environmental technology and is kept upto date with regular visits to the shipyard. The shipsare equipped with the latest seawater desalinationfacilities for water treatment, as well as biologicalsawage treatment plant and TBT-free under waterpaint. In addition, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises operate acomprehensive waste collection and also ensuresthat waste is disposed of onshore.Hapag-Lloyd Cruises reduce the emissions of all theirships by using a clever route management; the re-nunciation of “the last knot” reduces fuel consump-tion by around 30 %. By using fuels with a maximumsulphur content of 0.1 % during lay times in Europeanports, emission is reduced by 93 % compared to thestandard limit. In collaboration with the non-profit environmental pro-tection organisation, atmosfair, Hapag-Lloyd Cruisesare the first cruise company to offer a CO2offsettingcompensation. atmosfair have developed the first cli-mate calculator for cruises.Hapag-Lloyd Cruises are responsible for a quarter ofthis voluntar y climate protection contribution for theirpassengers. More information at: www.hl-cruises.com/climate-calculator.When it comes to climate protection, the EUROPA 2goes further and sets standards. A newly designedhull cuts fuel consumption by approx. 18 % in rela-tion to other ships of a similar size. Energy recover yand LED lights help to reduce energy consumption. And using a higher proportion of low-sulphur marinediesel clearly reduces the sulphur emissions of theEUROPA 2. It is the first cruise ship with SCR cata-lysts, which reduce the nitrogen oxide emissions byalmost 95 %. And a special cleaning system preventsthe entrainment of other species of flora and fauna inthe ballast water tanks.P H I L O S O P H Y07 Protective High commitment to preserving naturalhabitats.
