Businesses today have to find more ways to achieve higher profitability and business growth. More than just controlling cost and finding more customers: Competition is more intense than ever, emerging from overseas to “over the wire” (internet) Your ability to respond faster to the changing market needs than competitors is key to a successful business Providing better customer service can lead to more repeated businesses and new revenue opportunities
However, there are inevitably many challenges along the way to higher growth and profitability, particularly: Lack of instant access to the right information often hinders small businesses’ ability to quickly respond to your customer’s needs faster than their large competitors With many things still being done manually or “disjointedly”, redundant work or errors directly result in lower efficiency and profitability To drive their business with better technology, companies often acquire different systems for different purposes at different times. Keeping these disparate systems working together poses a major challenge, demanding the IT expertise, staffing and money far beyond what small businesses are prepared to take on Lastly, small business owners often find themselves spending most of their days reacting day-to-day operations and fire drills, instead of planning and focusing on the more important aspects of their business to drive their business forward
Business tools and solutions must make fundamental shifts to address the business requirements faced by every small business today: The growing complexity of every business is driving business applications to provide broader, more comprehensive capabilities The lack of IT resources in small businesses, on the other hand, is pushing more for “one stop shopping”, or everything comes in one package Business applications have moved away from “a few IT experts” to “everyday business users”. “Easy of use” is core to user adoption More important, increasing competition is making every business is unique and different. The old “one size fits all” and “change your business to fit my technology” is no longer a viable approach for today’s business technology solution providers
SAP Business One is a solution that has been expressly designed with the needs of small businesses in mind. SAP Business One includes out of the box functionality to manage core processes that a typical small business need. Going into more specific solution details: SAP Business One is a single integrated system that helps you streamline your entire business. For e.g. once a sale is made, the product can be shipped, invoices created, general ledgers and inventories updated, all automatically. This eliminates the need for duplicate data entry and the errors, costs and delays associated with that. Hence, once a customer address is changed by sales, it no longer needs to be rekeyed in again by folks in operations or accounting. In addition to automating your business processes, SAP Business One also provides event-based alerts that allows you to set up notifications for the things that are important to you for e.g. if invoices over $10,000 become 60-day past-due, or the inventory level falls below certain threshold. This practice of management by exception allows you to focus more on the most important parts of the business without having to be constantly engaged in reactive fire-drills. While SAP Business One builds a solid foundation for growth by streamlining your entire backoffice operations, its integrated CRM tools enables you to take your business to the next level: The powerful opportunity management tool allows you to manage and track entire sales process, identify and focus on the most promising deals and opportunities. It gives you the robust tools to deliver a better customer service experience. The complete integration between your front-end CRM and backend operations ensure that not only can you capture the next new business opportunity, but also have the everything it needs to deliver and support it from end to end
Every business, no matter what size it is or what industry it operates in, is unique in certain ways. SAP believes that technology should be flexible enough to adapt to the unique needs of individual businesses and not the other way around. To provide a couple of examples: It provides powerful capabilities such as User Defined Fields so even normal business users (who are not technical experts) can adapt the system to make it work the way they work, without having to rely on expensive outside consultants. SAP Business One is more than just an application, it is a platform supported by over 300 SSPs (Software Solution providers) that provide over 500 applications, many of them industry specific solutions that meet the needs of customers in specfic industries. SAP Business One provides out-of-the-box integration to popular tools such as Microsoft Office and Outlook. It also comes with standard integration interfaces so you can link it to the other tools and applications that you might have acquired or developed, for example, a special customer scheduling program
“ Rapid time to value“ is another key attribute of SAP Business One. SAP Business One is easy enough to allow small businesses to get it up and running quickly while maintaining the simplicity for ongoing maintenance. Having been implemented over thousands of times around the world, SAP Business One is tuned for fast implementation. With the “Accelerated Implementation Program“ (AIP), customers can get their SAP Business One system up & running in a matter of weeks, in some cases, even days. Because SAP Business One is a single system to maintain, it eliminates all the costs and complexity resulting from multiple systems, separate upgrades and complex integrating between them to keep things running smoothly. As part of the SAP Business One offering, SAP provides a free support tool called, “Remote support platform” (aka RSP). RSP is an end-to-end support solution for the entire system lifecycle that assists customers & partners with implementations, upgrades, and issue resolution. It’s an automated tool that continuously scans customers system to detect, prevent and even remotely “REPAIR” performance or database related issues to ensure system always is on its peak performance. Finally, because SAP Business One is designed specifically for small businesses, it is easy to use so employees can start using it immediately. A flexible user interface allows them to personalize the interface that best suits their needs so they can have central access to the most relevant tools and information they need to perform their job. With a few clicks, users can quickly pull up a customer’ account balance, check the real-time inventory status, and place an order.
While access to updated and accurate data is crucial for the success of any business, equally important is the ability to be able to extract knowledge or actionable intelligence out of that data. Converting raw business data into a format that is useful for a business user remains an ongoing challenge for most small businesses. SAP Business One now comes standard with the industry leader Reporting & Business Intelligence solution, SAP Crystal Reports. SAP Business One and SAP Crystal Reports allows businesses to design and customize reports using a variety of presentation formats that include interactive drill-down functionality and sophisticated formatting. It provides reporting for all business processes supported by SAP Business One, including accounting, sales, purchasing, production, inventory, service, and management Additionally, for customers who wish to create live dashboards that clearly communicate the state of their business, there are additional products such as SAP Crystal Dashboard Design (Formerly known as Xcelsius). I am very excited to announce that SAP Crystal Dashboard Design is soon (i.e. Q4 in 2010) going to come out of the box with SAP Business One and SAP will deliver pre-configured, built-in dashboards to its users.

It offers built-in country-specific functionality to help you leverage local best practices while complying with local legal and financial requirements, such as tax declaration, accounting postings, reporting standards for European Union countries and other individual markets. The fact that it offers worldwide coverage on a single platform, SAP Business One enables cost effective deployments for global installations, and reduces the complexity of integrating offices around the world. It also gives you the ability to deploy solution in situations where you want to integrate with your suppliers and customers
One very compelling advantage of SAP Business One is its ability to integrate with other SAP solutions running in large enterprise environments, for e.g. SAP ERP Business Suites. Using Business One, a small business owner can share data, collaborate and automate business processes while interacting with a larger entity to which it may be supplying goods as a vendor. Similarly, a business owner can also connect with other small businesses with which it does business. This allows a business owner to get access to newer markets, connect with its own suppliers and gain better operational visibility and control. SAP has developed the Business One integration for SAP NetWeaver, which is the next generation solution for enabling SAP Business One to rapidly and easily integrate with SAP Business Suite and SAP NetWeaver.
So what are the mobile capabilities in SAP Business One? A key component of the SAP Business One solution is what is called the Business One Integration Component or B1IC.
